WELCOME VISITORS We are honored by your presence this morning. We would love for you to record your attendance on the Friendship Pad when it is passed to you and provide information so that we can contact you further. ENTER TO WORSHIP This is a holy hour. We invite you to enter this sanctuary with joy and reverence. We invite members and visitors to be seated near the front of the sanctuary to enhance our sense of community in worship. When you have taken your seat, spend a few moments in quiet reflection as you prepare your heart for worship. If the service has already begun, please enter quietly by one of the side aisles. Please remember to silence your cell phone. RESOURCES FOR HEARING IMPAIRMENT Hearing assistance devices are available for those who have such need. Please see an usher for more information. BECOME A MEMBER OF HBBC Those who desire to join our church may come forward to where the pastor is standing during the Hymn of Commitment. If you would like to meet with a minister before making this decision, any of our ministers would be happy to answer your questions. UPCOMING EVENTS DEBT RETIREMENT REPORT Thank you for your generous gifts in our Debt Retirement campaign. This year $33,162 was given to apply to the principal of the debt. It s not too late to give. Go to hbbc.org/give and designate debt retirement. RITE-AID PARKING LOT Next week, March 10-15, the Rite-Aid parking lot will be unavailable for HBBC parking due to construction that will be occurring during its transition to a Walgreens store. If you use their lot on Sundays or other times during the week, please plan for additional parking time at Underwood School or another location. Thank you for making this temporary adjustment. ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES March 6 is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent, a time when we reflect upon Jesus sacrifice. On Ash Wednesday, Christians around the world receive the mark of an ashen cross upon their heads to represent their penitence. On March 6 you are invited to come to one of three special services, which will take place at 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM in the Chapel. Each service will only last about 20 minutes. We encourage you to invite a friend to join you for this special service. ASH WEDNESDAY TAKE HOME KITS We know it is difficult for many to come during one of our Ash Wednesday services, but know that the beginning of Lent is important in the life of our entire congregation. We encourage those that can t attend a service at HBBC to pick up an Ash Wednesday kit to help them create an Ash Wednesday service at home. These kits are designed primarily for families with children or youth and can be picked up in the Welcome Center or Nursery Suite. LENTEN DEVOTIONAL BOOKS This year s Lenten emphasis will consider some of Jesus s most poignant questions. To guide our reflections we ll be using Matthew Croasmun s book Let Me Ask You A Question: Conversations with Jesus. Books are available for purchase in the church office at a cost of $10 per copy. They are also available in Kindle and EPub formats. THE GATHERING DURING LENT Join us as we gather around the tables again during the season of Lent to have some more family discussions. Each week we will explore a question from Jesus in preparation for Sunday worship. As we Wonder in the Wilderness together, we ll discuss some questions like, What s Your Name?, Has No One Condemned You?, Why Do You Worry?, Does This Offend You?, and others. We had some great discussion during the fall and it is sure to happen again. We will begin at 6:15 PM each Wednesday night starting March 6 in the Fellowship Hall. Plan to join us in an intergenerational, family discussion around the table. BUSINESS MEETING Join us on Wednesday evening, March 13, at 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall for our Business Meeting. Items that are on the agenda include: approval of the 2019 budget, a report about the status of our Long Range Planning Project, and a recommendation from the Constitution and By-laws committee. If time allows, we will share in our Lenten dialogue question for the week. SEXUAL AWARENESS AND FAMILY EMPOWERMENT SEMINAR HBBC will be hosting a Sexual Awareness and Family Empowerment (SAFE) Seminar Friday, March 8, 5:30-8:30 PM with dinner included and Saturday, March 9, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM with light breakfast and lunch included. The seminar is for parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone else who works with children. The cost will be $50/couple; $35/individual. Childcare will be provided. Register online at www.hbbc.org/safe or call the church office (919) 833-4617. 2019 HBBC SCHOLARSHIPS We are now receiving applications for the 2019 HBBC Scholarship. High school seniors and current college and graduate students may apply. For more information on the application process, please visit hbbc.org/scholarship. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 15. KIDZ STUFF VOLUNTEER AND SHOP Kidz Stuff needs YOU! Volunteers are a vital part of each successful sale. We need many volunteers and have a wide range of opportunities.
