We welcome everyone to St. Bernard Parish this weekend as we celebrate Easter! It is a special pleasure to have home so many of our members who may have been away at school or who have moved and our now home visiting family. Visits home can be a time to reconnect, reconsider and recommit to a closer walk with God. These visits can spark a return to the faith of our childhood or the starting of our faith as an adult. What might help? One way is taking time with God daily in pauses of prayer to speak or even read some scripture to help keep our awareness of God awake. Tuning in to Catholic radio on 1050am or The Catholic Channel on satellite radio are other simple ways to reengage or elevate our faith life. There are also free apps on our smart phones that facilitate prayer. I suggest the PAYG Pray As You Go app. You are also welcome to access our FORMED subscription purchased free for our parish members. The access code is in this bulletin and you can connect to it on our parish website www.stbernardgb.org, it is like a huge Catholic Netflix, check it out! You may also desire to reconnect with the community of the Church here or back home. This allows us to hear him speak outside of our own thoughts. All of these help us experience the relationship with God which we seek, knowingly or not. I pray this Spring and the months ahead bear fruit for you! Easter Sunday helps us remember the reality of the Resurrection of Christ and the power of God to conquer death. It is a promise that God will one day restore and heal all things in Christ, both the beautiful and the broken. Whatever our hardships or struggles, God is truly still present and He remains with us. He is like a loving parent who stays with their child and doesn t leave. God stays with us in our pain until the end and through the end. He never leaves our side. The Resurrection of Christ is our promise that God is not content with our death and that his last word on our pain, sorrow and tears is one of triumph and victory. Rejoice! If you are not with family this season or if your loved ones have passed on, you are especially lifted up in prayer. Holidays can be very lonely times. More and more we are called to look beyond this life as the years pass. God s promise is that one day He will heal all our hearts providing the love, comfort and lasting friendship we each desire. Let us pray for each other. Please be mindful of those members of your family who you know are alone. Make a special effort to reach out to them and make a phone call. If you are able, go and make a personal visit. This is a beautiful offering of love toward God and neighbor. It may also be the appropriate time to go and visit a cemetery where a loved one is buried. Cemeteries are holy places which remind us of the coming gift of Heaven for those who die in Christ. Say a prayer for the deceased when you are there. I pray your Easter is marked with the gift of faith in God s love for you. May you find comfort in his presence, remembering that we are never alone. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg

April 20 & 21, 2019 PAGE 3 Easter Sunday He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. (ACTS 10:38) On this Easter Sunday, open your hearts to receive God s love, mercy and forgiveness. God is love and we are made in His image and likeness. Let our lives reflect His light to others. Pray for guidance on how to live your life and give thanks for all that He has given you. Religious Education News Adam Horn-R.E. Director The Week Ahead: April 24 Grade 1: Who Is the Holy Spirit?
