WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD Greeting, Welcome, and Opportunities for Discipleship Welcome to our guests and visitors! We invite you, if you feel comfortable, to introduce yourself at this time. Everyone please silence your cell phones. Call to Worship God of the past, who has created and nurtured us, we are here to thank you. God of the future, who is always ahead of us, we are here to thank you. God of the present, who is here in the midst of us, we are here to thank you. God of life, who is beyond us and within us, we rejoice in your glorious love. Invocation Hymn 24 God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens (During the singing of the hymn, please pass prayer requests to center aisle.) Call to Confession Responsive Prayer of Confession Merciful God, for the things we have done that we regret, forgive us; for the things we have failed to do that we regret, forgive us; for all the times we have acted without love, forgive us; for all the times we have reacted without thought, forgive us; for all the times we have withdrawn care, forgive us; for all the times we have failed to forgive, forgive us. For hurtful words said and helpful words unsaid, for unfinished tasks and unfulfilled hopes, God of all time, forgive us and help us to lay down our burden of regret. Amen.

Silent Confession (A time for personal confession of sin) Assurance of Forgiveness Hear the good news! God loves us. God forgives us. *Passing of the Peace Having received God s peace, let us share it by turning to our neighbors and greeting them, saying Peace be with you! Prayer for Illumination WE HEAR THE WORD OF GOD Scripture Readings Isaiah 55:6-9 p. 644 James 1:19-25 p.215 Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. Thanks be to God. Sermon Conversation led by Pastor Bill Hennessy WE RESPOND AND GIVE THANKS TO GOD Hymn 753 Make Me a Channel of Your Peace Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen Offering WE DISPERSE TO SERVE GOD IN THE WORLD Hymn 541 God Be with You Till We Meet Again

Closing O God of life, of all life and of each life, we lay our lives before you; we give our lives to you from whom nothing in us is hidden. You are before us, God, you are behind. You are around us, God, you are within. O God of life, O generous Spirit, Renew us with your life, this day, tomorrow and always. Benediction

NOVEMBER ReACT MARTIN LUTHER Sunday, November 19, at 11:15 a.m. in the church library We will watch together the documentary Martin Luther. Of this 80-minute film, PBS says, Learn how one man reluctantly took on the most powerful institution of his day and won. Martin Luther is credited with expounding a new vision of man's relationship with authority. Filmed across Europe - from rustic rural Germany to the opulence of Vatican City you'll witness the collapse of the medieval world and the birth of the modern age. As we watch, we ll ask the question, How are we helping to restore the unity that was lost 500 years ago? Or, as Jesus prayed to the Father, so that they may be one as we are one. (John 17:11b) IT S COLD: CAN YOU SPARE A COAT? As you are bringing out the winter wear, please keep Friends of Night People in mind. They have put out a call for men's winter coats, boots, hats, gloves, and socks. If you have any of these items you no longer need, please bring them to church. We will transport them to FONP. BIBLE STUDY IN THE RESOURCE CENTER This study happens weekly at 9:15 a.m. We will study the Sunday lectionary. The study leaders are volunteers. 2017 TURKEY BASKET DRIVE (see insert) We will partner with area churches, synagogues, and organizations to feed families at Thanksgiving.
