SAN LORENZO DE EL ESCORIAL The Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, commonly known as El Escorial, is a historical residence of the King of Spain, in the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northwest of the capital, Madrid, in Spain. It is one of the Spanish royal sites and functions as a monastery, royal palace, museum, and school. The Escorial comprises two architectural complexes of great historical and cultural significance: the royal monastery itself and La Granjilla de La Fresneda, a royal hunting lodge and monastic retreat about five kilometres away. Philip II engaged the Spanish architect, Juan Bautista de Toledo, to be his collaborator in the design of El Escorial. Juan Bautista had spent the greater part of his career in Rome, where he had worked on the basilica of St. Peter s, and in Naples, where he had served the king s viceroy, whose recommendation brought him to the king s attention. On 2 November 1984, UNESCO declared The Royal Seat of San Lorenzo of El Escorial a World Heritage Site. It is a popular tourist attraction, more than 500,000 visitors come to El Escorial every year.
MIRANDA Y SUIZO HOTEL Miranda & Suizo Hotel, o El Miranda as it is popularly known, is located a few meters from the mejestic Monastery of el Escorial and the Plaza de la Constitución, which is the center of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial. It has a restaurant, cafeteria and parking nearby. Later, it passed into the hands of his son Francisco Miranda, mayor of the city (1869-1871). It is the oldest hotel stablishment of the city, in its origins (1846), part of the space that occupies today, was the called Fonda de San Luis. His first review dates from the 19th century, when D. Isidro Miranda decided to turn the House of Comedians into a fruitful hosting business. One of the first guests was Isabel II, when she was dethroned she spent one night on the road to exile because she could no longer stay in her royal rooms of the monastery. It was then, when the musician Isaac Albéniz, still a boy, played his first compositions here. At the beginning of the 20th century it would pass into the hands of the Veuthey family and since then it has been called Miranda-Suizo.
MIRANDA Y SUIZO HOTEL All rooms have bathroom, air conditioning and TV. The minibar will be available upon previous request. The Miranda & Suizo has a lovely terrace where breakfast is served with a wonderfull views of the city. Also, there is restaurant and bar. It combines traditional elements with modern comforts, including free WiFi. We were spending a few days in San Lorenzo del Escorial and we chose this maginificent hotel for its location in front of the Monastery and for decoration which we loved. The treatment of the staff was fantastic in the hotel and in the dining room. The rooms were cozy and clean with everything you need it in a bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and you could not hear any outside noise, so we could really rest. We recommend it at all.
