April 21, 2019 Fellowship Hall Service 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Easter Sunday

Order of Worship * Welcome and greetings Chad Middlebrooks, pastor of adult discipleship * Call to worship based on Revelation 5:9, 12 Leader: Alleluia! Christ is risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! Leader: With his blood, Jesus Christ has ransomed men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. All: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! * Hymn of praise Crown Him with Many Crowns Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne; hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own: awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity. Crown him the Lord of love; behold his hands and side, rich wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified: no angel in the sky can fully bear that sight, but downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright. Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o er the grave, who rose victorious to the strife for those he came to save. His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high, who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die. text by Matthew Bridges, 1851 * Prayer of adoration Affirmation of faith based on Colossians 1:12-22 Leader: We joyfully give thanks to the Father! All: For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Leader: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. All: He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. Leader: For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. All: Once we were alienated from God and were enemies in our minds because of our evil behavior. But now he has reconciled us by Christ s physical body through death to present us holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation. * Hymn of response I Know That My Redeemer Lives Glory, Hallelujah text by Samuel Medley, 1775; music by David Henry, 2013

Call to confession 1 John 1:8-9 and Luke 19:10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace based on 1 Peter 1:18-21 and 1 Corinthians 6:14 Leader: You know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. All: For by his power, God raised the Lord from the dead and he will raise us also. Thanks be to God! * Hymn of assurance I Will Glory in My Redeemer I will glory in my Redeemer, whose priceless blood has ransomed me. Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails, and hung him on that judgment tree. I will glory in my Redeemer, who crushed the power of sin and death. My only Savior before the holy Judge: the Lamb who is my righteousness; the Lamb who is my righteousness. I will glory in my Redeemer, my life he bought, my love he owns. I have no longings for another, I m satisfied in him alone. I will glory in my Redeemer; his faithfulness my standing place. Though foes are mighty and rush upon me, my feet are firm, held by his grace; my feet are firm, held by his grace. I will glory in my Redeemer, who carries me on eagles wings. He crowns my life with loving kindness; his triumph song I ll ever sing. I will glory in my Redeemer, who waits for me at gates of gold, and when he calls me it will be paradise, his face forever to behold; his face forever to behold. text and music by Steve and Vikki Cook 2001 Sovereign Grace Worship ARR, ICS, UBP, CCLI Lic.#152036 Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings

Thanks be to God. Prayer of preparation for the study of God s Word

Sermon Pastoral prayer He Is Not Here He Has Risen!! Frank Hitchings, senior associate pastor * Hymn of response Before the Throne of God Above * Benediction * Doxology * Postlude Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea, a great High Priest whose name is Love, who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart; I know that while in heav n he stands no tongue can bid me thence depart; no tongue can bid me thence depart. When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see him there, who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; for God, the Just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me; to look on him and pardon me. Behold him there the risen Lamb, my perfect spotless righteousness, the great unchangeable i am, the King of glory and of grace! One with himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased by his blood; my life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ my Savior and my God; with Christ my Savior and my God. One with himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased by his blood; my life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ my Savior and my God; with Christ my Savior and my God. text by Charitie Lees Bancroft, 1863 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. * Congregation standing as you are able

Mark 15:42-16:8 42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus body. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb? 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. 6 Don t be alarmed, he said. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you. 8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
