Your Financial Stewardship For the week ended Jan 18, 2015 Weekly Joyful Giving Envelopes... $ 20,449.00 Offertory Collection...... $ 1,606.00 Budgeted Weekly Joyful Giving $22,660 Thank you to everyone for your prayers while the students and I were on the trip to Washington D.C. this past week taking part in the annual March for Life. The March for Life is the largest annual Human Right demonstration in the world. Over 500,000 persons marched from the National Mall where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his dream speech, to the Supreme Court Building. It was a great witness to the reality of and the full dignity owed to every human life from the moment of their creation. This year s gathering was one of the most diverse in history gathering persons of very diverse faiths and ages. We arrived in Washington on Tuesday morning and then quickly settled into our residence. Once rooms were assigned we took the subway to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception which is the largest church in the United States. This massive Basilica houses a great deal of chapels to Mary below the main church, each donated by various nations around the earth. They are a great testimony to the broad expanse of the Catholic faith. The upstairs church is rather spectacular in its immensity. It s centerpiece is a massive image of Christ coming in power and judgment which looks down ominously over all who move through the building. This stop gave the students a chance to pray and prepare for the week ahead. On Wednesday we went to pray at the local Planned Parenthood where lives are lost. Washington DC has the gruesome statistic of having more children die in abortion than are born. We quietly prayed the Rosary and the Mercy Chaplet outside the facility. Our time of prayer was providentially bookended by two other groups which hemmed in our time seamlessly. Following this we walked to the Catholic Information Center up the street which allowed us time to pray and purchase religious goods. The rest of the day was a time of recreation at the local Smithsonian. Thursday was the March for Life which began with a Mass at the Verizon Center with tens of thousands of other students, hundreds of priests and a great deal of bishops. It was a time of song and prayer. We then proceeded outside to gather at the National Mall to prepare for the 2pm March. The March takes about an hour and moves at a slow to moderate pace and is full of prayer, chanting and talking. It is a time of fellowship and witness. The weather was near 40 degrees this year which made it a lot easier. Friday was a day of rest and a trip to the National Aquarium before returning home. We marked each day with Mass and then morning and evening prayer. The students were tremendous. I hope to have them speak at some of the upcoming Masses. Thank you again for your support. Blessings, Fr. Mark Vander Steeg
