We are reading, Martin Thielen s book, What s the Least I Can Believe and Still be a Christian? This book published in 2011 is divided into two parts: What Christians don t need to believe and what Christians do need to believe. Written by a Methodist pastor, this book is as the cover states a guide to what matters most. Be ready for some interesting discussions on such topics as Jesus Identity, Jesus Priorities, and Jesus Legacy. Purchase your copy from your favorite retailer, and we ll see you Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Upper Room beginning January 24 th.

The Adult Sunday School group will begin meeting again Sunday mornings at 9:00 am in the Upper Room, beginning Sunday, January 14th. We will be watching and discussing Making Sense of the Christian Faith, by David Lose. This is an exciting and inviting exploration of the major theological doctrines of the Christian faith in the order of the biblical story. Join us for a fresh look at a faith which is 2000 years new. The bylaws/standing rules below will be offered at the annual meeting for your consideration. The Endowment Ministry and Finance Committee would be combined, and general guidelines are set. Please consider thoughtfully these changes and bring any questions to the meeting (Sunday, January 21, 2018). BYLAWS AND STANDING RULES FOR FINANCE MINISTRY WORKING FORMAT ONLY Bylaws Ministry of Finance (We previously had no bylaws for the Finance Ministry-the Finance Ministry was a committee of the Church Council) Article XI: The Ministry of Finance (there was an Endowment Ministry here before) A. The membership of the Finance Ministry will be made up of five elected members plus a nonvoting representative of the Executive Board. The elected members will serve five year terms arranged so that only one term expires each year. B. Responsibilities of the Finance Ministry will include but not be limited to: 1. Serve as the spiritual overseers of the financial affairs of the Church 2. Manage the Church s investments and liquid assets in accordance with the Church s mission statement 3. Develop and recommend the annual budget 4. Develop and maintain operating procedures to provide financial controls Standing Rules Ministry of Finance: 11. Rules of procedure of the Ministry of Finance A. Develop and recommend the annual budget to the Church Council based on budget requests and annual pledges. Budget to be subsequently approved by the Congregation. B. Review the monthly financials -P&L and balance sheet- and make appropriate recommendations to Council C. Review and make recommendations on any budget requests for expenditures not in the current budget D. Advise approval of any with drawl or expenditure from the reserve fund using the required form (we already have that form) E. Assure the Moderator, Vice Moderator and Treasurer are signatories on our operating budget account F. Establish appropriate signatories for investment accounts G. Advise Council of any cash transfers needed to support short term cash flow H. Submit minutes of meetings to Church office within 7 days to maintain a permanent record I. Administer the Hazel Chamberlain Endowment following the approved guide lines J. Manage new designated or undesignated endowments, bequests, memorials and other gifts, being responsible for any new contribution of $5,000 or more. K. Ensure annual audit is done L. Supervise the accounting system and recommend updates as needed M. Review investment allocation and performance N. Elect a chairman at the beginning of each calendar year O. Ministry chairman shall serve on the Church Council

COUNCIL MEETING Tuesday, December 12, 2017 The meeting was called to order by Moderator, Debbie Awes. Pastor Chuck opened with a prayer. In attendance: Debbie Awes, Pastor Chuck, Debbie Tomicich, Shirley Quinn, Dixie McCampbell, Renee Gabrian Debbie Tomicich moved 11-14-17 minutes be approved, Shirley seconded, and motion carried. Financial Secretary: Debbie reported pledges continue to come in and statements will be mailed out in early January, 2018. Treasurer: Shirley reported open collection is at $24,800, ahead of budgeted amount of $11,900. Expenses as of 11-17-17 are $136,800. Pastor: Chuck reported 01-07-18 service will include the baptism ceremony for Erin Awe s daughter. He will attend the second scheduled Clergy and Therapist training to assist Veterans and their families on 01-30-18. He will meet with a wedding party 01-18-18 with wedding at Rock Creek Resort on 01-27-18. Church services Sunday, 12-24-17, will be celebration of 4th Sunday of Advent at 10:00 AM, Christmas Eve Service at 5:00 PM. There will be a soup supper hosted by Patti and Chuck Aurand following this service for those with no Christmas Eve plans. Guests are requested to bring side dishes for this meal. Moderator: Debbie reported the Congregational Meeting on 11-19-17 went well with approval of the budget and election of officers. Sharyn McKenzie and Renee Gabrian volunteered to be Deacons. She received a letter from MT State Fund Team Select. Our participation may lower insurance payments and Debbie will complete the application by 12-15-17. Camp Mimanagish is desperately requesting money. They are requesting the designation of three people from our congregation to be liaison to serve on a committee to serve Camp needs. Ministry: Diaconate report on file Facilities Management: Report on file Christian Education: Chuck reported the Monday School Program will end after 12-18-17 class due to insufficient numbers Stewardship and Missions: no report Bylaws: Chuck reported no meeting was held in December, next meeting in January. Budget: Dixie presented a format for Bylaws Ministry of Finance. She moved we approve this format, Debbie Tomicich seconded, the motion was carried, and the Format will be presented at the Congregational Meeting in January, 2018. Mark Schubert has Quick Book programs to update our office computer. He and Lynette will work on the updates which will enable the formation of Church Member, Associate Member, and Friends of Church lists. Dixie presented Standing Rules Ministry of Finance. Old Business: Chuck reported Stewardship and Mission will be sending out the Christmas Angel letter for end of year giving to the Church s ongoing mission. These funds are for our general fund use. Chuck made a motion to insert the term, new undesignated, to line J of Ministry of Finance Standing Rules, Renee seconded, and motion approved. New Business: none Our next meeting will be 01-09-18. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
