In just three hours, learn simple ways to effectively reach out to non-practicing Catholics, make new parishioners feel at home, create a sense of family at every liturgy, and minister to bereaved at funerals. Calling Youth to Mission Workshop in Portland on June 4 A workshop entitled Calling Youth to Mission is set for Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Chancery offices on 510 Ocean Avenue in Portland, with videoconferencing available in Brewer and Caribou. The workshop is designed for all parish leaders whose ministries impact the lives of adolescents, including clergy, pastoral associates, youth ministry coordinators, faith formation and service leaders, catechists, school teachers and principals, and campus ministers. The featured presenter will be Jane Angha, coordinator of youth ministry services for the Center for Ministry Development. Angha has worked with high school youth for the past 20 years as a teacher, youth minister, and coordinator of religious education. The Silver & Gold Mass is a testimony to the goodness of marriage and the blessings it can bring a husband and wife. The gathering will thank God for graces given and ask for the continuing gift of grace to persevere in the commitments that have been made. N.E.W. (New Evangelization Week) in Standish on July 6-10 Gather with around 100 other teens from the Diocese of Portland to share, learn more about, and grow in your faith! N.E.W. is a week-long institute that will be held at Saint Joseph s College of Maine in Standish from July 6-10. All high school teens going into their sophomore, junior, or senior years, or those just graduated from high school are welcome to attend. It s a jam-packed week focused on discipleship and evangelization, and filled with a good balance of social, prayer, learning, sharing, and outdoor time. Barrels & Brews in South Portland on June 4 Catholic Charities Maine will hold its annual Barrels & Brews fundraiser on Saturday, June 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Southern Maine Community College, located on 2 Fort Road in South Portland. Barrels & Brews features a sampling of Maine's best craft beers and wines, plus delectable hors d'oeuvres and s'mores. There will also be live music, a silent auction, and chances to win luxury raffle baskets. Tickets are $42 per person or $320 for a group of eight. From the Catholic Community Midcoast Symphony Orchestra to Present Verdi s Requiem in Lewiston (May 14) and Topsham (May 15) The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra will perform Giuseppe Verdi s monumental Requiem Mass (Messa da Requiem) under the direction of Rohan Smith and in collaboration with the Oratorio Chorale and Vox Nova Chamber Choir. The performances are set for Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Franco Center in Lewiston, and Sunday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham. Renowned soloists will join over 150 local musicians on stage during the performances. Verdi s Requiem is seldom performed outside major metropolitan areas. It was last offered in Maine by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in 2003. Individual tickets are $20; college students with a student ID and those aged 18 and younger will be admitted free.
