Sybil's "Stick" Carrying Bags Raised $760.00 for Highlands Saturday Lunch Program Sometimes all it takes is a simple idea to raise a few dollars for an organization that reaches out weekly to many in North Vancouver. THE FUNDRAISING IDEA and how it came about: Our North Shore Tai Chi Spirit group is learning a new Qigong form called "Taiji Yang Sheng Zhang", and the "Jian Gan" form. To learn these forms requires each person to have two sticks to practice with. These two Qigong forms are practiced to help strengthen, stretch, and coordinate the body and the mind, in ways that ordinary exercise alone does not accomplish. Knowing that these two sticks needed to be transported to and from each class, Sybil Moody, a student of our Tai Chi Group at the North Shore Neighbourhood House (North Vancouver), came up with the idea to create a carrying bag for herself. But Sybil, with a thoughtful heart, expanded her idea to offer it to others who either didn t have the time, the equipment or the material to create their own carrying bag. Sybil thought there would only be a few interested, say, about 5 or 6 bags. But almost all 57 people wanted one. So, Sybil and her daughter, worked tirelessly to create each one of them. >>>>

>>>> Each bag had to be customized by size for each person. Sybil donated not just her time and expertise but all the material for all the bags.sybil's effort were amazing! But none of this would have happened if it hadn't also been for Joe Cash and Paul Pederson who manufactured the custom-designed and sized sticks. While Sybil came up with the idea of the carrying case, and manufactured them all with her daughter s help, it was our Tai Chi-ers and Qigong-ers who donated all the money to make Sybil s wish to help others in the Saturday Lunch Program come true. It is a wonderful community coming together to help others. The Saturday Lunch Program, operated completely by volunteers, provides free weekly lunches at the North Shore Neighbourhood House. The volunteers are all managed through Highlands United Church (North Vancouver). The total monies collected from all participants in our Custom Carrying Case fundraiser was $760.00, which will help feed 50-70 people once a week for many weeks. Our contribution is small, but the sentiment is huge. We all came together to make it happen!

Sock Appeal for First United A Message from Doree Piercy and the Local Connections Team: Once again sincere thanks to everyone who responded so generously to the Local Connections Committee s Appeal for Socks for First United. Our goal was 1000 pairs. With your gifts of money and socks we will probably double our target number. The staff and Foot Care volunteers truly appreciate our donations. I am sure that those who receive a dry pair of socks feel even more appreciative, especially in this wet weather. Blessings to you all, Doree
