MSC STUDENT GOVERNME NT MINUTES Date: November 28, 2012 1. Call to order and Quorum Check- The meeting was called to order at 11:55 AM. 2. Adoption of agenda- A. Marie Fremlin motioned to adopt the agenda. Will Scott seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 3. Approval of minutes from the previous meeting- A. Michael DiBattista motioned to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Marie Fremlin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 4. Guest Welcome- The club welcomed Emilia Nagel and Lynda Jones to the meeting. They are here to get a Nordic Ski club recognized. 5. Guest Speakers- None. 6. Reports A. Faculty and Staff Reports 1.Jo Didiano- Informed the council that the library will be having extended hours staring on the 3 rd of December and ending on the 5 th. a. Monday-Thursday 8:30 AM - 10:00 PM b. Friday 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM c. Saturday 9:00 AM 5:00 PM 2.Eric Blomskog- Not present. 3.Craig Ballain- Emphasized what was said by Jo Didiano. B. President s Report 1.Denise Reeve-

C. Vice President s Report a. Turn a Leaf- The representative from Turn a Leaf will be on Campus on Thursday the 29 th. He will be in JKB 128 at noon. Phi Theta Kappa is trying to bring many non-profits on campus to get people involved. b. Christmas Door Contest- There will be a door judging contest for Christmas and winter. The judging will be done on Monday the 17 th. c. Bonnie s Birthday- If anyone is interested in celebrating Bonnie from marketing s birthday, it will be on Friday in the marketing department. d. There is a fundraiser in the library right now. You can try to guess the amount of M&Ms in a jar and if you are right you get to keep them. Each guess costs $1. 1.Michael DiBattista- Reminded the council that if anyone needs a badge they need to let him know so he can get them made. He also added that during the Veterans Day celebration there was a color guard and someone played taps. Talis Colberg and Tom Spangler both spoke and it was a wonderful experience. He advised the council that if they had missed this year s festivities that they should try to see it next year. Andrea Bennett informed the council that if they would like to see this years that it can be found in video format on the College Face Book page. D. Secretary s Report E. Committees 1.Andrea Bennett- Informed the council that there is NNTR. 1.Club Council- Denise Reeve reminded the council that they need to attend club council meetings once a week. If you belong to a new club you need trained. If you belong to an old club there is new stuff you need trained on and you can help train the new ones. This week they will be going over how to do end of semester paperwork. All clubs have to fill out a beginning and ending budget each semester. 2.Planning Committee- Michael DiBattista informed the council that the paperwork has been turned in and they are going to three bears today. There is a sign-up sheet available to man the tables for snack week. We need volunteers because the officers cannot do it alone. They were going to ask for funding for Christmas decorations to decorate the atrium but have recently been informed that we have decorations so they will work with that. Will Scott said that the dance committee would sign up when they figure out what time they can do it. They will be doing a dance as well. Denise Reeve reminded the council that if no one signs up to do the table they will have to assign people for it.

7. Business 3.Rules Committee- Stephen Warta said they met today yet did not make quorum so they did not do anything official. They will be meeting next week on Wednesday at 11 in FSM 201. He also informed us that Will Scott would like to join the committee so we need to vote on that. F. Liaisons Report a. There was much discussion before vote on whether he would be a good member for the rules committee. Jonathon Jacobs motioned to make Will Scott a member of the rules committee. Stephen Warta seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 4.Finance Committee- Denise Reeve informed the council that this committee will be meeting next Thursday. They will be meeting in FSM 208 at around 3 o clock. She also said they can always use more members. 5.Constitution Committee- Stephen Warta said they met this week but it was only him and one other member so they did not accomplish much. 6.Board of elections- Stephen Warta informed the council that there is NNTR. 7.Student Media Board- Kim Hayes mentioned that she had read the minutes from last week and saw that we had discussed rallying for student jobs on campus and for the editor of the paper to be a paid position. She also said she would be willing to back anyone up in this endeavor. Grace Valley said she wanted bring back previous positions that we no longer have. 8.Bulletin Board Committee- Jonathon Jacobs said that he will be talking to the club with the last board that needs to be decorated but that the rest had something on them. He will also have the rules written up by Friday. 9.School Song Committee-Theresa Thomas informed the council that the committee still has not met but they are still doing flyers and have set the deadline for submissions for January 18 th. They already have one entry. 1.Daniel Ribuffo- Announced that because of the holiday last week there was no meeting. He also said that UAA is creating a permanent Liaison position. In order to do that they have to have a constitutional referendum. He also said that the liaison position would not count towards their quorum. He asked if our council could give them an endorsement so that they know this would be a continuous thing and not just for this school year. Denise Reeve said that having our voice heard and being involved with them is a good thing. a. Michael DiBattista motioned to endorse it. Will Scott seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

A. Old Business B. New Business 8. Club Announcements 1.ITS Bill-Denise Reeve brought up the bill that was discussed last week for the club calendar on the site. If the $170 was divided between the clubs they would each pay less than $10. There was discussion on paying part of it and asking marketing to pay the other half but Denise Reeve informed the council that marketing is already paying for part of it. There was conversation about how to deal with it in the future and maybe make it an in house service instead of paying someone else to help. a. Jonathon Jacobs motioned to pay the $170 ITS bill for the help with the calendar. a. Marie Fremlin amended the motion to say that the clubs would be paying for it and not the council as a whole. b. Michael DiBattista seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. 1. 1% for art committee- Denise Reeve informed the council that Harlan is looking for a student to serve on a committee that will decide what art goes in the new building. Andrea Bennett said she would put the word out to Team Art. Denise Reeve said that if anyone was interested to let her know so she can tell Harlan by next Friday. 2.Recognize club- a. Nordic Ski Club- This will be a club for people to cross country ski together. It will not be a competitive kind of thing, just for fun. Stephen Warta questioned on their paperwork about having Alumni participate in a club and Denise Reeve said Alumni is fine, they just don t have a vote. There was more discussion about the club and its ability to succeed. a. Michael DiBattista motioned to recognize the Nordic Ski club as an official club. Stephen Warta seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. A. American Sign Language- Denise Reeve mentioned that the club has not been in attendance for the last 3 meetings. 1.Marie Fremlin motioned to drop the club. Stephen Warta seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. B. Astronomy Club- Michael Bridges informed the council that their first meeting would be tonight in FSM 105 at 7 o clock. C. Carbon Crew- Stephen Warta informed the council that there was NNTR.

D. College Students for Christ- Stephen Warta informed the council that there was NNTR. E. Dragon Cinema- Michael DiBattista reminded the council that this week they are showing a movie in conjunction with the Japanese Club. F. Gay Straight Alliance- Benjamin Roth informed the council that there is NNTR and that they don t think they will have any more meetings this semester. G. Japanese Culture club- Jonathon Jacobs said that Michael DiBattista had already covered their news with the Dragon Cinema. H. Mathletes- Cameron Weeks said their chili cook-off is scheduled for the 5 th. They have posters up and they have sign-up sheets on their board. They will also be having trophies. 1.Requesting funding- Michael DiBattista motioned to give the Mathletes their full funding for the semester. Jonathon Jacobs seconded the motion and it passed. I. Mat-Su Arctic Dragons- Stephen Warta informed the council that they have another game coming up on Monday at 6 o clock. They also have a few more games for the semester. Andrea Bennett added that their schedule of games can be found on the clubs webpage. J. Mat-Su Dance Club- Will Scott informed the council that their t-shirts should be done by Tuesday and that they will be selling them for a fundraiser. Each shirt will be sold for $10 and will not only advertise for the club but the school as well. They meet in FSM 212 on Mondays from 4-6 and on Thursdays from 11-12. K. Mat-Su Monitor- No representative was present. L. Medieval Combat Club- Luke Warta informed the council that people are still showing up. It is dying down but there are still members. He also informed the council that they are having an end of the world battle on December 21 st around 2 o clock in Wonderland Park. M. Metl Hedz- Denise Reeve reminded the council that the lab time is on Thursday from 1-7 in FSM 208. There is also a metal smith class that follows that time if you would like to check it out. N. MSC Paramedic Association- Timothy informed the council that they will be having a blood drive on December 5 th from 9-3:30 in the parking lot. Posters can be found around the school with more information. O. Team Art- Denise Reeve said the meetings are on Tuesdays from 11-1 in FSM 212. Andrea Bennett said that in the meetings they are now actually doing art. The last 2 meetings have been water color and the next one will be colored pencils. They also talked about the ITS bill and support paying for their portion. P. Vet Assisting- Denise Reeve informed the council that there was NNTR. Q. Veterans Club- Stephen Warta informed the council that there was NNTR.

9. Comments R. We the People- Kim Hayes thanked the council for their support and informed them of an event with MY house. It is called help us decorate the tree. They gather supplies that someone needs and put them together on a tree. The donations for it end of December 13 th. The club meetings are on Wednesdays at 2:30 in JKB 128.
