Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH May 5, 2015 Dear church family and friends, Important Dates A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. The opening words of the Bible in Genesis 1:1 read, In the beginning, God created. Nicolas Berdyaev says, Creativeness in the world is the eighth day of creation. The Bible refers to seven days as the time in which our world was made. The word day in the Bible often means a long period of time, not just a 24-hour period. Beyond those seven days, God continues to move, work, and create. Eph. 2:10 informs us that we are God s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. God s intends for His creative power and love to be expressed through the gifts and talents of His people. There is a story about the great sculptor, Michelangelo, pushing a huge rock down the street. A curious neighbor inquires as to what he is doing. Michelangelo answers, There is an angel in that rock that wants to come out. We are called, with God s help, to release the angel within us all. God has given us the raw materials, the gifts and abilities to touch our world for Him. The point at which we use our gifts is when we become cocreators with God. He uses us to change our world for the better. On Sunday May 17, we will have a Ministry/Missions Fair in the Fellowship Hall. The worship service will end early and we will be dismissed to the Fellowship Hall. There will be separate, visual displays to represent many of the missions and ministries currently going on in our church. Each "booth will have a representative to answer questions. There will be opportunities for you to try out a new ministry/mission. A light lunch will also be served. Thank you for your present and future serving! I look forward to seeing you at the Ministry/Missions Fair, as we serve the Lord together. Love, Pastor Mike We rejoice in Jerry Reynolds decision to make Wise Baptist Church his home last Sunday at the conclusion of worship. We look forward to his Baptism in the near future. From Leigh What glorious weather we have been blessed with for the past few days. It almost makes you forget about the harsh winter! Our time of fellowship over the weekend at the yard sale was also glorious. The team work and compassion that is displayed at the yard sale is amazing. Whatever needs to be done hauling, moving, folding, taking money, speaking to customers gets done without complaint. That s serving! Did you notice our new vocalists in TRUTH? I texted Macey and Carla last week and just asked if they would consider singing with us and they both immediately responded with Yes. That s serving and using your talents for His Glory! My dad shared with me a story about a doctor in their church. She has a very successful women s practice in Monroe. A man in their church has been leading mission trips to Bolivia for a number of years. He asked this doctor to go because there is such a need for women s care. She said she couldn t leave her practice or her young child for that long. Then, God began working on her heart. She realized that all that she has her successful practice, her family, everything is a gift from God. If she is not willing to use her gifts for Him or trust Him with the things that are most precious to her, why has He blessed her with these things. She came under conviction that she should go. She shared her testimony with her church and she is now back from her mission trip to Bolivia. WOW! WOW! WOW! Many people brought goodies for the college students. A large group of people stayed after church on Sunday to pack stress-buster bags. That is serving! Where/how will you serve? Reflect on what God has blessed you with He probably intends for you to use that for Him are you? I am praying for all of you this week. Blessings, Leigh YOUTH Thank you, Susan Mullins, for the wonderful meal last night! This week, we will not have regular youth because we are going to the trampoline park in Johnson City. BIBLE STUDY If you, God, kept a record of wrong doings, who would stand? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that s why you re worshipped. Ps. 130:3-4 (The Message) UPCOMING EVENT We will leave around 1:30 on Sunday for Just Jump in Johnson City. Bring money for dinner. Friends are welcome!
