Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. - Matthew 6:21 THE VOICE OF OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH Pastor Steve Jacobsen Church Office: 942-3168 / Pastor's Cell: 217-204-6576 E-mail: RevJacobsen@outlook.com s: Saturday & Sunday 9 A.M. Sunday School: 10:15 A.M. March/April 2019 This last month my beloved professor of Greek and Latin died. He was one of those people who will always loom large in one s memory. Professor Froehlich was eventually honored as part of a short radio program on KFUO by some of his students, though he certainly didn t seek earthly recognition as he quietly, patiently taught Greek and Latin to decades of students preparing to serve the church. As we studied the Sermon on the Mount in Bible for the past month, and as I prepare to preach on the above passage of it on Ash Wednesday (March 6), I am struck by my old professor s example. As Jesus describes the life Christians will lead in this world and how it is different from our unbelieving neighbors. There can be no doubt that the real reason behind any change men may see in us is that our heart is in a different place than theirs thanks to the hope of Jesus victory for us this Easter As we will note throughout Lent, Jesus the God/man was unlike any other human who will ever exist, but He has made us like himself by sharing his victory with us. Now we live in a new way that Jesus has created for us. May all of us have hearts and lives that in every way reflect where our treasure is. Blessings on your Lent & Easter, Pastor Steve Our attendance for the past two months was: Hebrews 10:24-25 1/5-6 1/13 snow 1/20 1/26-27 2/2-3 2/9-10 Sat 5:30 5 12 10 10 2/17 Sun 9 AM 35 37 42 32 25 38 Bible Options for everyone: The Sunday morning Adult Bible study is continuing to study Matthew. Come join us. The Sunday School invites you to come and help prepare your children to celebrate Easter with a greater understanding of the meaning of this festival. The Tuesday 9 AM Ladies Bible is looking at several LWML studies, come join them. High School LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) We are planning a trip to the St. Louis Seminary on March 3. We will have lunch together following Bible and leave church by 1 PM. At 3 PM we will enjoy Bach s St. Matthew Passion being performed by the Valpraiso Choir and Orchestra and we will have dinner also. Hopefully over lunch we can make more plans and elect a new officer. Those who can may also want to sign up for the Shepherding Sheep volunteer application at Camp Wartburg at www.ultracamp.com. There are two sessions; May 26-29 and May29-June 1. If we have enough interest Pastor will be glad to come along and help with transportation and other needs. This is a costfree servant event (looks great on a college resume). (be sure to use the Volunteer application.) Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ (OAFC)- is looking for more youth to get involved in local weekends see Pastor for details. Food Pantry We can always use more help when we host the Carrollton Food Pantry from 1-3 PM. There is still a need for cold & hot cereals, saltine crackers, jelly, peanut butter, juices (apple, orange, etc.), pancake mixes & syrup as we stock the shelves. There is a collection box is at top of basement stairs, near coat rack. Thank you! 1

Ladies Aid (President Sandra ) At our January meeting Kathy Harms opened the meeting with a devotion based on John 1:17, obeying God s laws. We discussed information available for our LWML Southern Illinois District and our LWML National on the internet. The web sites are www.sidlwml.org for the district and www.lwml.org for the national. We drew names for our Secret Pals and discussed attending the district Spring Retreat and Prayer breakfast. We decided to give an additional donation to LWML for an Epiphany gift along with our monthly Mite offerings. In closing, Emily shared information about the article Wonder of Wonders by Dietrich Bonhoffer At our February meeting Kathy Harms opened with a devotional entitled If you want mercy, get yourself to church. We collected our Christmas stocking donations and distributed them among four mission projects, KFUO Radio, Feed My Children, Braille Workers, and Our Redeemer Scholarship Fund. We were able to send additional funds to help the LWML national mites reach their goal for 2019. Sandy concluded the meeting with the mission muse from one of our district officers Helen Meyer about Valentine memories. Praise God we are able to continue to spread His love in so many ways. 1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
