FROM THE LAY DIRECTOR "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14 KJ21 I have been working with the Team Selection Committee under the Leadership of Past Walk Lay Director, Jonathan Ibarra, since early March recruiting team member candidates for the September Men's Walk to Emmaus #1761. This has been an amazing journey full of blessings and grace. There has also been warfare going on and we have done battle because we equipped ourselves early on with the armor of God. The ups and downs along the way have made us more confident that when we invoke the Holy Spirit he not only helps us but works through us, sometimes in spite of ourselves, to do the work of the Lord. When I was a child I learned the Lord 's Prayer this way...instead of "deliver us from evil" we said "protect us from the Evil One'. It has never been more evident to me how much the Evil One will interfere with distractions than the last thirty-two months I have served on this Board of Directors. Jesus never promised anyone that following Him would be easy. He just affirmed that the way to the Father was through Him. I am very sure we are doing what the Lord wants us to be doing...providing a way for others to encounter Jesus on the road to Emmaus and build leadership in His church. And every bump in the road confirms just that...we are doing the right thing or the Evil One would not be so unhappy about it all. The Good Lord has put together what is going to be the greatest blessing any man could have as they begin the journey in September of walking side by side with the pilgrims He want them to get to know as He slowly reveals His plan for the next phase of all their lives. Please go now to the Prayer Vigil sign up and take time during that weekend to pray for them all by name and after each name ask the Lord to let him see Jesus. DeColores! Judi Oestreich 2

GATHERINGS Sept. 20, 2014 Parkway Presbyterian Nov. 15, 2014 St John's UMC January 24, 2015 Asbury UMC March 21, 2015 St Paul UMC May 23, 2015 Kelsey Memorial UMC SCHOLARSHIP FUND It is a sacrifice and an honor to serve on a Walk Team and sometimes it is a financial drain on a pilgrim too. Sponsors are NOT required to pay the Walk Fee, however some do as an act of Agape. The CBE Board is setting aside donations that are restricted to help pilgrims attend and team members work the Walk week-ends in the future. This year we have heard more stories of the hardships that exist while trying to save/collect the amount of the fees required. If you wish to help with this special fund to enable others to experience the same love you felt on your Pilgrim Walk make your checks payable (in any amount) to CBE Scholarship Fund. Mail to Coastal Bend Emmaus, P.O. Box 273, Corpus Christi, TX 78403. THANK YOU! WALKS Men's Walk 1761 Charlie Smith Lay Director Carl Westbrook Spiritual Director Board Rep Sept. 11-14, 2014 Sponsorship Pray for Walk 1761 God to select the Team, Sponsors and Pilgrims. That each will have good health, open minds and hearts. That each will give undivided attention and Christ-like team wisdom. That each will have patience, trust and calmness about them. That all will feel joy and a sense of God's love. That the leaders will walk in His Spirit in all they are called to do. That the SD's be truly an instrument of His Spirit. For the Holy Spirit to meet each Pilgrim's needs. For the team to open themselves as God's channels. For the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the lives of pilgrims and team. For all to realize God's grace is sufficient for all needs. That all involved will keep the integrity of the Walk and follow the Upper Room model. Gathering Notes... In true Emmaus style Rev. Billy Storms, his wife, Judi, 5

is an act of Love... For God, for the pilgrims, for the church and for the Coastal Bend Emmaus. It is a demonstration of Agape love. It is making oneself an instrument of prevenient Grace. Prayerfully become someone's sponsor today. Pilgrim Application and members of their congregation put out the WELCOME signs for all members of the Coastal Bend Emmaus Fourth Day Group and their guests at Covenant Baptist Church on Saturday, June 26. Lay Director, Charlie Smith and many team members for the Men's Walk in September were there as well as ladies who attended the Women's Walk in June. Brian Bray and Daniel Garza kept the music lively. Connie Springs, a pilgrim on Walk 1755, shared a heartfelt Fourth Day Talk. Rev. Greg Hackett, Community Spiritual Director, led the community in the communion service and a special dedication for the men who will serve on Walk 1761's Team. It was an awesome Gathering. Many thanks to all who helped make it happen. If you missed this one, please mark your calendar for September,20 at Parkway Presbyterian Church on Santa Fe. Gatherings are held so all members of the local Emmaus Fourth Day Group and all residents who are interested in learning more about The Walk to Emmaus can come together to make the Christian Community in Corpus Christi more visible, encourage each other, inspire each other, renew relationships, and provide information about events, sponsorship, working on a team, etc. Can you think of a better way to spend two hours? AND, the food is always delicious! De Colores Betty Workman FORWARD THIS NEWSLETTER We would like to make sure you and your friends are receiving the Rainbow Bend Newsletter.
