The Christian Church Is Christ s Church 2 nd Sunday after Epiphany January 14 & 15, 2017

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: The text of an early Latin hymn that dates back to the eighth century describes Jesus as the sure foundation who binds all the Church in one. Although we may wonder week by week who will be at worship when we arrive at our church building, we know with certainty that our Lord is there. He is there in Word and Sacrament. He is there in the fellowship of the saints. He is there because the Church is His Church, for which He paid a great price. Gratefully, we await the gifts that He brings this day. PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Father in heaven, Christ s sacrifice for us has called us to be saints with all who come to You in His holy name. Grant that we may use all the gifts You have bestowed on us so that we may be guiltless until the day of our Lord s return; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. OUR MISSION AND MINISTRY We welcome our members and guests who are here with us today. May the Lord refresh you with peace and love during our worship service on this Second Sunday after Epiphany. Please join us here at Ebenezer again soon! Please sign the guest register near the front entrance with your name, address and Church affiliation. Our Christian Sympathy to the family of Ralph Eads. Ralph and dear wife Sue were former members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. Funeral Services were held Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Haven, with burial at our cemetery. We thank the congregation and its members for hosting the family for a dinner after the burial service. Again our heart felt sympathy to Sue and family and our dear members, Kim Gerding and her children, Danielle and Derek, and Judy Hubenthal a sister-in-law to Ralph. Guest Preacher next Sunday As Circuit Visitor for the Washington Circuit, Pastor Zastrow will be called to preach and visit area congregations. Next Sunday Pastor will be at St. John s Drake, and Pilgrim Lutheran Church at Freedom (Lynn). Our guest preacher will be Rev. Frederic W. Baue. Pastor Baue has served as a parish Pastor and is also an accomplished composer of hymns. One of his hymns we know well is What is this Bread HS98 #850. We are truly blessed to have Pastor Baue with us next Sunday. Poinsettias Please feel free to take the Poinsettia(s) you donated to our Church for Christmas, home with you to

enjoy. Altar Guild Members Please pick up your 2017 Altar Guild Schedule. These are on the table at the back of Church. If you need help, please let Mary Sprick know. It s Not Too Late Please come to the new Bible Study Class held on Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. Pastor will resume these classes for all members of the congregation. This class will be based on the old This Is The Life television show. With a gift from our Ladies Aid we were able to purchase these programs through the Lutheran Laymen s League. Pastor will have a Bible study and discussion on the program and have a time for hymn singing of familiar hymns. E-stewardship: The Ebenezer web site (ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com) now has a Donate button. It s a convenient way to support our ministry with a PayPal account or credit card. Members, be sure to click the + sign after entering the amount. You ll be prompted to provide your contribution envelope number (optional), which will ensure your donation is recorded properly in your name. PayPal will deduct a small amount (about 3% plus 30 cents per transaction) before Ebenezer receives the deposit, but the donor will not be charged any fees. A PayPal account is not required to donate with a credit card, but there is a link on the web site if you would like to create one. Please see Roland Walkenhorst for more information.
