MCKEESPORT, PA To live our Faith, we need to know our Faith! Year of Faith: 11 October 2012 to 24 November 2013 " They called the Church together and reported what GOD had done with them and how He had opened the door of faith..." (Acts of the Apostles 14:27). Corporal Works of Mercy and Divine Mercy Sunday Corporal Works of Mercy are kind acts where we help our neighbor with their everyday material and physical needs. Works of mercy are not actions that happen by accident; they happen when we are proactive. When we think about what we should do as followers of Jesus, the corporal Works of Mercy remind us that our Catholic faith is to be put into action. We cannot say that we love as God loves and then ignore the needs of our neighbors. Corporal Works of Mercy are not abstract qualities, they are concrete actions spoken by Jesus. When we perform corporal acts of mercy, we are not doing so to earn grace, please God or draw attention to our own holiness. We do so to reveal God s presence to others and as an act of stewardship, to respond to the overflow of Grace that we ourselves have received. As sacramental people, we express ourselves beyond words, relying on actions and gestures that reveal God s Love and express our Love for God and neighbor. - Paprocki- Practice Makes Catholic THE CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY: (1) Feed the hungry (2) Shelter the homeless (3) Clothe the naked (4) Visit the sick (5) Visit the imprisoned (6) Give to the poor (7) Bury the dead. Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska (Born August 25, 1905 - Died October 5, 1938) Saint Faustina s struggles were like our own and on the outside her life was ordinary. But on the inside her soul was transformed daily through prayer and God s mercy. Through Saint Faustina, Jesus commissioned a painting that would portray His mercy; it is now known as the Divine Mercy image. Throughout her short life, the Lord Jesus assigned her three basic tasks: Pray for souls, entrusting them to Gods incomprehensible Mercy. Tell the world about God s generous mercy. Start a new movement in the Church focusing on God s Mercy. Jesus, I trust in you. - Saint Faustina The Feast of Divine Mercy is the first Sunday after Easter.
