The Message of 1739 Harrison - Quincy Il, 62301 www.hopelutheranquincy.org Phone 217-214-4673 pastorscottmikkelson@gmail.com Cell 217-440-0191 OCTOBER 2018 Pastor s Ponderings Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation 1 Peter 2:2 If you want to grow as a Christian, you must feed on God s just as a newborn baby feeds on milk. In 1 Peter 2:2, the word crave means to have an overwhelming desire and need for something Does that describe your attitude toward God s? If you know anything about babies, you know they require regular feeding! And each feeding takes time. Babies don t drink a tiny amount and then feel satisfied. And it s not just a quick reading of the that truly satisfies. We can t just gulp a little down quickly and expect to receive all that it truly has to offer us. It takes time and effort to think on the of God and digest it, so that it becomes a part of us. The food we take into our physical bodies does not nourish us unless we properly digest and assimilate it into our cells. Spiritual food is the same. The we read has to become part of us to nourish us. Personalizing the of God and speaking it aloud helps us to digest the so that it becomes part of us. This, along with the importance of thinking and seeing in agreement with the, is Bible meditation. Meditating on, feeding on, being nourished by God s, changes the way we see ourselves and the way we see others. We believe and become what we digest. We learn to be little Christs. Reading His is the primary way we will be fed and grow spiritually. Matthew 4:4 says, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. God s sustains life, as does bread in the physical realm. But we need more than physical food to enjoy life as God intended. His is our spiritual food which will enrich our lives by producing faith in our hearts and renewing our minds. God s, our spiritual food, is vital for our spiritual growth. Do you crave it? When Your words came, I ate them; they In His Service, Pastor Scott were my joy and my heart s delight, for I bear Your name, Lord God Almighty. Jeremiah 15:16 Our Beliefs. We believe in the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit We believe that the Bible is the divinelyinspired and inerrant of God We believe that we are saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ We believe that God's grace comes to us through and Sacrament We believe in the Lutheran Confessions We believe that all are called to serve God and our neighbors through our God-given gifts, talents, and abilities Pastor s Office Hours Tuesday and Thursday: 9: 00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday: 1 0: 00am-12:00pm You can also call him at any time: 217-440-0191 Please keep Pastor Scott, Ivan & Birdy Paul, and Pastor Ron Graham in your prayers during the LCMC GATHERING in Des Moines, IA Oct 7th 10th
