He said his teachers were kind to him this year (they d better be), he got straight s in his classes (no surprise there), and is still waiting for his own office at Berk Enterprises (Sigh ) He and I decided that he should just take over the Berk Conference oom after all, it IS bigger than ob s office. He could definitely get a huge flat screen TV and game system in there without any problem at all. Nick Verina was on Fellowship again and this week s magic trick did NOT involve light bulbs.ye! He managed to pull it off without too much difficulty. Can t wait to see what he has in store for next week. Please consider sponsoring this year s event and definitely make plans to attend the celebration. Presidents Night will be held the evening of Wednesday, June 29, at the National Packard Museum. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Please turn in your reservations to Cheryl Oblinger no later than June 22 along with your payment. Please remember that we will NOT have our regular weekly meeting that day. Presidents Night WILL BE OU MEETING. This year, they are also closed the SECOND week. So, our meetings on July 6 and July 13 will be held at alternate locations. HMILTON June 14, 1935 pril 26, 2016 David H. Hamilton was born June 14, 1935 in Warren, Ohio to Clifford and Lillian Holtz Hamilton. He was graduated from Texas Military Institute, attended Kent State University and then served our country in the United States rmy. Dave joined the otary Club of Warren on May 5, 1964. t that time, he was Vice President of his family business, Warren Concrete & Supply, which he operated with his brother, Harry. lthough Harry was not a otarian, he and Dave both epitomized the precepts of otary in their operation and continued success of their business. Dave became president of our club in otary year 1968-1969, 48 years ago; 10 years before I even joined this club! In addition to serving as our president, he, of course, served on our board of directors and also was an active and contributing member over the years to the Pancake Day, Career wareness, Vocational wards and Chocolate Festival committees. When I was District Governor in 1994-95, I asked Dave to be one of my representatives. He readily agreed and performed admirably. In those days, there were no official ssistant District Governors as today. However we would ask knowledgeable, experienced and reliable otarians to serve in somewhat the same capacity. Dave s job was to visit the otary clubs of ustintown, Newton Falls and our own Warren club and keep me posted as to how they were doing and alert me they had any needs or problems that should be attended to. s I said above, David performed those duties admirably.

Of course, Dave was a Paul Harris Fellow. In fact, he became a Paul Harris Fellow plus 1 when he funded an additional PHF naming his wife, nna. He also was a benefactor, having pledged funds to otary s Permanent Fund, the income from which will benefit world peace and understanding forever. Dave always seemed to be blessed with boundless optimism, energy and enthusiasm. He was an avid sailor. His e-mail address seemed to epitomize both of those cheersyc@aol.com. lso, his license plate was YC -, with YC standing for shtabula Yacht Club. He would often leave Warren shortly after otary, hop in his Triumph Spitfire sports car and head to the north coast for a sail on Lake Erie, enjoying not only sailing, but also a sporting road trip to and from the docks. David had a lot of loves. In addition to sailing, he loved to shoot skeet and trap and he had a gun collection; he loved to mentor young people, acting as a father figure for them; he was generous with his time and served on many boards, including the Salvation rmy dvisory Board, taking not only supporting roles, but also available for leadership responsibilities. nd, we all know that he loved to laugh, always with that twinkle in his eye. He had that elfin smile that probably would have made him a good mascot for Notre Dame. He was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he also did more than just sit in a pew. He served as an usher, as a parish council member, as chairman and committee member. lso, as a true otarian, he also devoted his time, energy and generosity to the Builders ssociation of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, the Trumbull County Builders ssociation, the Kennedy Club, the Greenville Sportsman Club, the Buckeye Club and as I mentioned above the Salvation rmy. He was one of our several otarians to be named a Community Star, his award having come in 2007. David was, indeed, a Community Star, a otary Star, and just an all-around Star. nd, of course he loved his family. His wife, nna, who was taken by death from her family at a relatively young age. He will be missed by his daughters, Kelli, Kristen and Kathryn, his three grandchildren, his son-in-law and as I mentioned earlier, his brother Harry. nd, of course, we too, his fellow members of the otary Club of Warren, are saddened to lose this fine and memorable friend and member. Frank Bodor, Esquire We were delightfully surprised to have Frank Bodor as our speaker this week. He is without question one of the most honorable and respected attorneys in the area and we are so proud to call him our friend. Frank said the last time he addressed the club was in 1949 when we met at the old Warner Hotel. t that
time, he actually sang for the club. Today, he wanted to share information on two memorable cases he handled. In one, justice prevailed. In the second, justice did not prevail, but should have. W E N O T Y The first case was Stone v. Davis and was appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court where the case was adjudicated in favor of his client. The case involved a pregnant woman from shtabula who had a three-year old child. They owned a farm and their cattle became ill and the herd was wiped out. Her husband subsequently died in a car accident and the bank wanted to seize the property because there was no life insurance. However, when the loan for the farm was taken out, the husband checked a form that said he wanted credit life insurance and was under the impression that he had it. The bank claimed that he did not. The form itself did not specify WHO would actually have to obtain the policy. The courts decided in favor of the widow as they said the bank had a moral obligation to advise the couple who was responsible for purchasing the insurance. Frank described the steps the bank took to appeal the case and his efforts on his client s behalf to ensure that justice was done. In the end, the decision in favor of his client was upheld. The second case was about Wally the Lion, a case that was familiar to many. It involved a man who saved what he thought was a cat from a trash can in Florida. He brought it home to Warren and later learned that it was actually a lion. It became domesticated and was known to all the neighbors as a gentle giant. boy was scratched by the lion one day and the family filed charges. The lion was removed from its owner and became very ill and wouldn t eat. While the legal process continued, Frank was able to get the lion returned to its owner so its health would improve. It died shortly thereafter, though, as it was poisoned, probably through meat containing rat poison. Frank said this was definitely one case where justice did not prevail. He said that we forget that animals are one of God s creatures too and deserve better treatment than they are sometimes given. Frank believes that if something is morally correct, then it must be legally correct as well. This principle is what he uses to guide him as he takes on cases where justice should prevail for his clients. We are so very lucky to have Frank in our club, but even more so that he is in our community making a difference when people and organizations need his legal expertise and guidance. Frank is in writing a book, Vignettes of a Trial Lawyer, so someday we may call him uthor as well. We thank him for such a great program and hope that it isn t another forty years before he addresses the club!
