Second Sunday After Epiphany January 15, 2017 What else can I do except sing praises to God? Now, had I been a nightingale, I should have sung the songs of a nightingale...being a reasonable being, it is my duty to hymn God. This is my task, and I accomplish it; and you also do I exhort to this same song. Yes, Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! John Wesley Fort Street Presbyterian Church 631 W. Ed, in joy and thanksgiving and with affection and gratitude, we give thanks for your faithful and distinguished leadership. The life of this congregation and Fort Street Chorale is richer and fuller because of you. We recognize that making music to praise God requires creativity, devotion and discipline. You have exercised leadership far and above our expectations, leading and teaching by word and example. You have been a mentor for many. 3

Because of your ministry in this congregation and to the Detroit area, people young and old have grown in their faith in Jesus Christ and in their service to the church and the world. We give God thanks and praise for sending you to us, and we thank you for helping proclaim the gospel through the gift of music and for a wonderful music ministry filled with love and grace. Ed because of your distinguished service, the session of Fort Street Presbyterian Church wishes to confer upon you the title of Music Director Emeritus. Will you accept this title as a symbol of this church s esteem and honor? Do we members and friends of Fort Street Presbyterian Church pledge our continued love and sustained prayers for Ed and Amanda as they continue to serve Christ in their daily lives? Then on behalf of the Session of this congregation, I designate you Music Director Emeritus, with all rights and privileges, which means no duties or responsibilities, but overflowing with gratitude and prayers. In that spirit, we pray together: *PRAYER (unison) Master Musician, Loving God of all times and seasons, beginnings and endings, we give you thanks for Ed s ministry, for the tasks he accomplished, and for the ways he helped weave music into the fabric of this church and the community. And now may your music empower each of us for the service to which we are called this day and every day, in Jesus name. Amen.
