Faculty/Staff 2019-2020 Calendar Survey Dear Faculty, Staff, and Administrators, As we develop the school year calendar for 2019-2020, your input is needed to inform the decisions made by the administration and School Committee. We will do our best to create a calendar that meets state requirements and also serves the best interests of students. It is unlikely that we will meet everyone's needs; however, using the input from this survey, we will strive to make the best possible decisions overall. In the survey, you will be asked about school attendance on Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, and Good Friday. The decision to hold school on these holidays or not is both a practical one related to the number of students and faculty who will or will not be in attendance and a consideration of all the different holidays observed by families and employees in our school communities. We cannot meet our statutory and contractual obligations for 180 school days if we close school for all holidays. In an effort to be more equitable, many districts are no longer closing school on holidays other than those that are state and federally recognized. Please remember, not holding school on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday, as is currently the practice, extends the school year. Please respond to the survey by 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019. Thank you. Becky McFall Superintendent
