GATHERING TOGETHER TO WORSHIP

Transcription:

April 9, 2017 11:00 a.m. Palm Sunday We welcome you to worship with us this morning, as we gather in community to draw closer to God, made known in Christ. We pray you will know the presence of the Lord, through our worship, and through the work of the Spirit. We invite you to take these moments before worship to calm your hearts and minds and open yourself to the quiet stillness of the presence of God! GOD GATHERS THE PEOPLE Prelude Sandra Perkins & Gail Rollings Chiming of the Hour Welcome & Announcements Passing of the Peace Dianne Overstreet Rev. Jason N. Cashing Sharing of Joys/Concerns

Call to Worship One: Awake to the day of triumph for our Savior! All: Give thanks for this day that leads to the cross! One: Come with your branches, hosannas, and songs! All: Fill the air with welcome to the Lord! One: Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord! All: Hosanna in the highest! *Opening Hymn #197 Hosanna, Loud Hosanna Prayer of Confession (in unison) Holy God, certain of your faithfulness even in your dying, comforted by your compassion, we beg your mercy for our imperfect gratitude. We have looked to you for paltry favors, when you have given everything. We have withheld from your people the care and tending they deserve. We have rejected the cornerstone you sent to build a people of righteousness even here, today. Forgive our failings. Heal what is broken, nurture what we have neglected, and lead us to your vision. In Jesus name we pray. Amen (A Moment of Silent Confession) Promise of God s Forgiveness One: Hear the good news of the gospel: All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, healed, and made whole. One: Know that we have been forgiven, and be at peace! All: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Amen! *Congregational Response (Hymn #581) The Giving of Our Tithes, Gifts, & Selves to God - Offertory Congregational Response (Hymn #606) *Prayer of Dedication WE ENCOUNTER GOD S WORD Time for Children Junior Sermon Rev. Jason N. Cashing Children ages 3 1 st Grade are invited to Junior Church after the Anthem; Worship Boards are on the front pew for older youth. Choral Anthem Ride On, King Jesus

Prayer for Illumination (unison) Gracious Lord, open our ears that we might hear your Word to us this day, and follow where it leads us. Open our eyes, that we might witness you in the world and proclaim your presence with joy. For the glory of your Kingdom, we pray. Amen. Scripture 1 st Reading: Psalm 118:19-23 p493 2 nd Reading: Luke 19:29-44 p854 Sermon The Long-Awaited Arrival Rev. Jason N. Cashing *Reflective Hymn #196 All Glory, Laud, and Honor WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD We believe in God, whose love is the source of all Life and the desire of our lives, whose love was given a human face in Jesus of Nazareth, whose love was crucified by the evil that waits to enslave us all, and whose love, defeating even death, is our glorious promise of freedom. Therefore, though we are sometimes fearful and full of doubt, in God we trust; and, in the name of Jesus Christ, we commit ourselves, in the service of others, to seek justice and live in peace, to care for the earth and to share the commonwealth of God s goodness, to live in the freedom of forgiveness and the power of the Spirit of Love, and in the company of the faithful, so to be the church, for the glory of God. Amen. (from The Iona Abbey Community) Prayers of the People & Lord s Prayer One: Lord, in your mercy, All: Hear our prayers. *Departing Hymn #213 In the Cross of Christ I Glory *Blessing One: We have been blessed! All: We have met for divine worship, as God s people. One: We have been blessed! All: Our sins have truly been forgiven. One: We have been blessed! All: We go out into the world as the body of Christ, bearing the good news of the gospel. We are blessed, indeed. Amen! *Pastoral Benediction *Choral Benediction & Postlude
