The Alpha Bit Volume 28 Issue 8 Newsletter Date July 2018 The Alpha Bit Volume 28 Issue 8 Who is that coming down the road? Bro James Parham It was Dec. 1943 I was 3 yr. s old by 3 months so I m sure I couldn t remember much of the events at the time; however in the following years I heard enough of the situation to put together a fair picture of what the situation was for our family. Our family was in the same situation most of our nation was dealing with in the postdepression era, just getting by. What made that time so important for me was, it was the time my father was inducted into the army to join with so many others fighting for liberty, hopefully you know the history. Let me fast forward to Oct. 1945, I can t recall what I might have been doing at the time as I was now 5 yr. s old. We were living in a small house at the back of the field from my Grandparents, it was my Mother, my older sister and my older brother, our father was still away in the army. Times had been tough for our family, I can remember once having an abscessed tooth, if you ve ever had one you feel my pain, anyway Mom didn t have any money to take me to a dentist so she put a tea bag, where she got it I don t know likely she made it, anyway she put that in my mouth next to the tooth and I suppose it was to help draw the infection out. Here is where I want to go with this, There is in my mind an image, I am seeing a man with a woman on each side of him coming down the narrow lane that lead from family members of my Grandmother s side of the family that went down to the main road. They are laughing and seemed to be just so happy. I contacted my Sister, who is 4 yr. s older than me to ask her what she remembered and could my image be real.. My sister confirmed to me, my image was of the day our daddy came home from the war. From this glimpse into my family history I believe there is something to be gained. My father s return to us brought the following. The leader of our family. Our Mom had done a wonderful job in his absence and they shared in this responsibility upon his return. The provider for our family, not sure Mom ever received Inside this issue: Bro James 1 Church News Men s Conference Change Point Nov 2-3 3 Truth Walks 4 Movie Night 5 VBS at Maple Valley 6 Monthly Income, Calendar, Birthdays 7 2 2 the $50 per month paid for a husband serving overseas. The protector of our family. Our home was less than 3 miles for a prison camp where offenders were housed. As a Christian, I can put a spiritual connection to our family dilemma as I have described it in my early years, and how much our Savior wants to be in lives. Can it not be said, that is just one of the many reasons we love Psa.23 and as the account is given in John s gospel concerning the death of Lazarus. The McKamey s sing it, DOWN THE ROAD CAME JESUS, RIGHT ON TIME. No matter how big the problem, it s not so big Jesus can t handle it. How big is your Jesus?

We lose our focus and make the unimportant things seem super important. And in these moments we would give anything to get back to that newness we had when we first started to follow Christ. Loving God with everything that we are renews our entire lives with a new focus that cuts through the mess. It s like turning on the lights in a dark room or wiping the finger smudges from your sunglasses. Jesus wants to renew your life and help you turn your focus back on him
