You hear him addressing the people who have already expressed sorrow for their sins. They are about to be baptized as a sign of their repentance. But they realize they must change their lives and avoid sin in the future. Then the people wonder whether John might be the promised Messiah of God. John tells them that they must look for someone greater than he. We know he was directing them to Jesus. This week I ask you to spend some time discerning this passage. Reflect on your own path of faith that you journey on. No matter what your path looks like, we are here today with faith in the salvation of our God. Your path may be made up of many diversions from the straight and narrow way, but in spite of the twists, turns, highs and lows, God is still calling us to make the journey with Christ. We can be like John the Baptist when we help others to find Jesus Christ in their lives. As you prepare yourself for the Lord, patiently straighten the paths of your life, while cooperating with the grace of God, through Christ.
