BEFORE WORSHIP As you prepare to worship your Lord today, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer before the service. Review the lessons, the service notes, and pray this prayer: PRAYER OF THE DAY O God, you rule over all things in wisdom and kindness. Take away everything that may be harmful and give us whatever is good; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. FOR THE CHILDREN: A Staffed Nursery is available for your use at any time during the service. It is located in Rooms 1 and 2. A Cry-Room is available if your little ones need a moment. It is located near the balcony stairs at the back of the sanctuary. A speaker and window let you see and hear the service. Children s Activity Sheets give activities and lessons pertaining to the Scripture lessons for the day. Ask an usher at the door into the sanctuary. 2

SERVICE OF THE WORD OPENING HYMN: #735, Speak, O Lord 4

INVOCATION L(eader): The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C(ongregation): And also with you. CONFESSION OF SINS L: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. L: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. C: Amen. L: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. 5

OUR SONG OF PRAISE PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray. The leader says the Prayer of the Day. C: Amen. 6

THE WORD OF GOD THE CHILDREN S SERMON THE FIRST LESSON: ROMANS 8:28-39 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died more than that, who was raised to life is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. HYMN, Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus Up! Stand Up, stand Up for Jesus, as soldiers of the cross. Lift high his royal banner, it must not suffer loss. From victory unto victory, his army he shall lead, Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed. Refrain Up! I m gonna stand up! Stand up and live for Jesus! Up! I m gonna stand up! Stand up and live for him! Lord, you have lived your life for me, died so lovingly, served so faithfully. Lord, you give me the power to live for you, live for you. Refrain. 7 Soccer Camp Participants

THE GOSPEL LESSON: JOHN 16:31-33 31 You believe at last! Jesus answered. 32 But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. THE HYMN OF THE DAY: #441, O God, Our Help in Ages Past 8

THE SERMON: More than Conquerors THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THANKSGIVING THE OFFERING: The members of Faith Lutheran Congregation have joined together to do the Lord's work in this community and around the world. Visitors need not feel obligated to participate in this offering which supports our ministry. THE PRAYER OF THE CHURCH: Throughout the prayer, when the Leader says, Lord, in your mercy the congregation responds by saying, Hear our prayer! THE LORD S PRAYER: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. 9

THE LORD S BLESSING L: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness. C: Amen. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.
