Fall 2015 ~ Beginners Lesson #1 Today your child learned that The Bible is from God. Children heard that the Bible teaches us how to be good followers of the Lord Jesus. They talked about how reading stories from the Bible makes us stronger and grow our spiritual muscles. The Bible is from God. All Scripture is given by God. (2 Timothy 3:16) 1. How many parts does the Bible have? 2. What can we find in the OLD testament? 3. What can we find in the NEW testament? 4. What can we learn from our Bible? Share your favorite Bible story from your childhood. Look it up in your child s Bible and read it together. They talked about how God also protects us and is there for us whenever we need Him. God is always with us. My help comes from the Lord. (Psalm 121:2) 1. What did Moses mother do to protect him? 2. How did God protect Moses? 3. How does God protect me or help me? Draw a picture together of your family doing something outside on a rainy day. Talk about what kinds of things we have that will protect us from the rain (umbrellas, rain coats, rain boots, etc.). They talked about how important it is not only to listen to God, but to listen to him the first time! God is always with us. Blessed is the one who always has respect for the Lord. (Proverbs 28:14) 1. Why did God send the ten plagues to the people of Egypt? 2. What were some of the plagues? 3. Do you think the Pharaoh should have listened to God the first time? Why? Talk about what time you wake up in the morning, what time you eat lunch, what time you go to bed, etc. and practice making the hands on the clock. Point out that no matter what time it is or where we are, we can always pray to God about anything. Say a prayer and thank God for always hearing us when we pray. They talked about not every having to be afraid of anything because God is always able to protect us. Trust in God with all your heart. The Lord is with me. I will not be afraid. (Psalm 118:6) 1. What happened to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? 2. Why do you think God protected the three men in the fire? 3. What can you do when you feel afraid? Build and start a camp fire (s mores would be great), or burn a candle (and have a treat) safely at home together. Let your child/children get close enough to feel the heat of the flame. They talked about how important it is to say thank you to God for all that He has done. The Lord loves a thankful heart. He threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked Him. (Luke 17:6) 1. What was wrong with the ten men that Jesus met? 2. Why was the one man who came back to Jesus after he was healed so special? 3. How can I show God how thankful I am? On a piece of blank paper, have each family member draw a picture of (or write) one thing they are thankful for. Keep your family list on your refrigerator and add to it each day, trying to think of new things each time. After you have finished the week, thank God for all of the things on your list, and for being the amazing God that He is! What kind of heart do we want to have when we bring our offerings to God? 2. Whose offering was better the poor widow or the rich people? 3. What else can I offer to God besides money? Make a list together (draw pictures if possible) of things your children can do around the house to earn extra money in order to save for a special thanksgiving offering. Talk about doing those extra things with a cheerful heart. After you make your list, thank God for all the things He has done for your family.
