Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord 31 March 2013 Saint Luke Church, Whitestone, New York From the Desk of Msgr. Tosi--- This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad! Responsorial Psalm Easter Sunday In the joy of Christ Risen the church proclaims the Good News of Easter Jesus Christ is Risen from the Dead. Alleluia, Alleluia!! Together with the parish pastoral staff I wish to express Easter greetings to all our parishioners and in a special way to all our guests and visitors, neighbors, friends and relatives who celebrate this Easter Sunday here at Saint Luke. May the joy, peace and hope of Christ Risen fill your hearts today and every day, for born of the water of Baptism we share Christ s victory over sin and death. Truly this is Good News. It is the cause of our joy and reason for our hope. And so: May God, who by the Resurrection of his Only Begotten Son was pleased to confer on you the gift of redemption and of adoption, give you gladness by his blessing. R. Amen. May he, by whose redeeming work you have received the gift of everlasting freedom, make you heirs to an eternal inheritance. R. Amen. And may you, who have already risen with Christ in Baptism through faith, by living in a right manner on this earth, be united with him in the homeland of heaven. R. Amen And may the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down on you and remain with you for ever. R. Amen. God bless Happy Easter! Rev. Msgr. John C. Tosi Rev David J. Dettmer Rev. Michael J.S. Bruno Deacon Harry Svebel Retired Sister Katherine Burke, C.S.J. Mrs. Barbara Reiter Jessica Tranzillo Smith Page 1

AN EASTER REFLECTION -- Christians, praise the paschal victim! Offer thankful sacrifice! Christ the lamb has saved the sheep, Christ the just one paid the price, Reconciling sinners to the Father. Death and life fought bitterly For this wondrous victory; The Lord of life who died reigns glorified! O Mary, come and say what you saw at break of day. The empty tomb of my living Lord! I saw Christ Jesus risen and adored! Bright angels testified, Shroud and grave clothes side by side! Yes, Christ my hope rose gloriously, He goes before you into Galilee. Share the good news, sing joyfully: His death is victory! Lord Jesus, victor King. Show us mercy. Amen. Easter sequence Roman rite Eleventh century Page 2

It was started by a group of businessmen from the different parishes in the Queens area to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All the members of the club come to celebrate Mass on the First Friday of each month. Mass is celebrated by Rev. Father Gerard Ettlinger, S.J. There is a lunch after Mass, followed by a guest speaker. It is a holy and happy celebration in honor of the Sacred Heart. The Flushing First Friday Club will meet on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 12 noon at Verdi s Restaurant, Whitestone. Cost of the lunch is $25. NOVENA IN HONOR OF SAINT ANTHONY - The annual novena in preparation for the feast of Saint Anthony will be held after the 8:30am Mass on Saturday mornings in the School Hall starting on Saturday, April 6 and continuing until a special feast day Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, June 15 at 8:30am. This change in our regular novena schedule is necessitated by the repair of the church and allows us to accommodate all those who wish to attend the novena. Of course, June 13 remains the feast of Saint Anthony. Mass will be celebrated in his honor on the feast day as well. ************************************ A REMINDER --- In order to provide an atmosphere of prayer and reflection centered on the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ, all parish meetings have been cancelled from Friday, March 22nd to Sunday, April 7th. Renewing Our Faith Through Acts of Charity --- A word of thanks to those who have already responded to the request of the Bishop to support the 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal. Your generous gift will enable us to meet our parish goal of $100,508 while funds collected over goal will support our parish campaign of restoration and renewal of our parish buildings. Allow me to express my own gratitude for your gift to the Appeal especially in light of our ongoing Capital Campaign. I am humbled by your goodness and support.
