October 30, 2016 St. Kevin R.C. Church Page 2 Dear Friends, This week we celebrate All Saints Day and All Souls Day. All Saints Day reminds us that we are all called to be holy. Saints are saints not because they are dead, but because of the way they lived! It is true that many saints in the history of the Church were Popes, Bishops, Priests, Deacons, and women and men in consecrated life. However, there are many parents and lay people, both young and old, who lived heroic and exemplary Christian lives and are counted among the saints in heaven. We are all called to be holy, to be saints! On All Souls Day, we pause to remember our deceased family members, friends, and loved ones who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith. We pray for the repose of their souls, and for the consolation that only our faith can bring to those who mourn and grieve. Here at St. Kevin, the 7:30 PM Mass on November 2 nd is an opportunity for us to remember those whose funerals were celebrated at our parish during the past year. The names of the deceased are solemnly read during the Mass; those families received a letter inviting them to join us for the celebration. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. As you know, on Saturday, November 5 th, Deacon Robert Mema will return to St. Kevin to join us in giving thanks to God as he is ordained a transitional deacon. God willing, next June, he will be ordained a priest for service in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Please return the form included in today s bulletin if you would like to join us for a light supper after the 5:00 PM Mass to congratulate Deacon Robert. Also, during the 5:00 PM Mass next Saturday, we will install new ministers for our parish: lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and altar servers. We are grateful to the generous response of our fellow parishioners to take on these ministries in our parish. Just a reminder that we will conduct our annual Thanksgiving food drive this year. The food drive will take the place of the food collection that has been taking place on the last weekend of the month. Please plan on providing a complete Thanksgiving dinner for families who otherwise will not be able to share a special meal on Thanksgiving Day. If you can t manage to provide a complete dinner on your own, please reach out to other families and make it a combined effort. We are truly blessed, and it is our privilege to share our blessings with those who are less fortunate.
