Happy New Year! It is particularly special that we will welcome in 2017 in worship on Sunday, January 1 st. We ll be choosing personal watchwords during that service, as well as having our annual hymn sing and communion. Hope to see you there! As I consider what 2017 will bring, I am reminded of something our daughter, Sophie, recently taught me. She was playing with one of the $100 bill erasers from our fall stewardship series and it broke in half. I thought she was going to be really upset by it. But before I could say anything, she broke each of the halves in half again. I was more than surprised! I asked her what she was doing and why she had broken it on purpose. Sophie replied, Well, I figured if I couldn t have an eraser, I could turn it into a puzzle! Sophie didn t waste any time complaining about the loss of what she had, she just took something that had been destroyed and turned it into something new. The puzzle was something different than what she had expected, but just as cool as the eraser. We can all choose to do that in life, not only with things, but with dreams and expectations. When plans don t turn out the way we thought they would, we can look at it as an opportunity to welcome something new. 1.8, 1.15, 1.22, 1.29 Confirma on 10:45 am 1.9, 1.23 Girl Scouts 4:00 pm 1.9 Mom s Club 9:45 am 1.10 Board of Elders Mee ng 6:30 pm 1.14 Men s Breakfast 8:00 am 1.15 Kid Pack 1.18, 1.25 Choir Rehearsal 7:00 pm 1.20 Game Night 7:00 pm 1.22 Church Budget Mee ng 10:45 am 1.24 CROSS Mobile Pantry 8:00 am 1.27 Kid Pack Delivery 2:00 pm 1.29 Church Council Mee ng 10:45 am 1 Continued on page 2

PASTORS MESSAGE CONTINUED God promises us that he will be with us always in new and unexpected circumstances. He reminds us of this in Jeremiah 29:11, a very well-known passage. For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart. What a wonderful promise for 2017! If we seek God with all our hearts, we will find him. He will be with us. We have a hopeful future that is in God s hands. Because of God s love for us, we can take the broken erasers in our lives and turn them into puzzles. May we welcome in the new year with a sense of peace and hope, trusting God will guide our paths! In Christ s Light, Pastor Jenny 2016 Congregational Watchword: Jesus says, For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
