Volume 1, Issue 6 Bethany Church on the Hill June 2017 Dear Beloved Bethany, As we enter the summer months, I want to encourage you to consider reading, meditating (and perhaps even memorizing) the New Testament book of Philippians. Since this will be the Pauline epistle I'll be preaching in the fall during our morning services beginning in September, you could now begin earnestly familiarizing yourself with this letter (if you haven't already). This is what I myself will be attempting to do during these summer months, and I think it would be something that each one of us could profitably engage in as we prepare to hear the Word of God together. There is so much divine truth that is packed in this short, four-chapter book, we could stand to carefully interact with it now during the months of June, July, and August, in turn asking God to bring this book alive to us as we seek to study it together! Would you pray with me that God would grant us a rich time digging into this portion of Holy Scripture? May the Holy Spirit illumine our minds to comprehend and apply what we learn from Philippians, both to His glory and for our eternal good. For the sake of His Name, Pastor Lance will be welcoming new members by extending to them the right hand of fellowship on June 18 If you have not been baptized as a believer and would like to consider being baptized, planning is underway to hold a summer baptism service. Please contact Jim Hines at jimhines56@gmail.com will be leaving for Florence to begin their ministry serving the Lord in Italy. June 25 will be their last Sunday with us! Join us on the patio between services to say hello and good-bye and to thank them for their ministry in our midst. Broadcaster

Volunteer to serve an evening meal at the Oxnard Rescue Mission June 12 3:00-7:00 pm Meet at the church to carpool rides. Maximum of 12 men and/or women can participate. Minimum age is 12. Contact Bob Amstutz to sign up. b1amstutz@aol.com Short Term Mission Experience Go International on a Weekend in October! Hands of Mercy trains helps churches (like Bethany) start a loft house project in their parking lot, facilitate Baja weekend trips and provide cross-cultural, short-term, ministry opportunities in Mexico as well as overseas. Hands of Mercy encourages all members of the family to serve together and has no age restrictions. The Bethany Missions Team invites all of you to join us in this Mission Experience! On Saturday, October 21, our church will fabricate the panels of the loft house right in our Bethany parking lot. The Mexican family receiving the house will also get a care package put together by Bethany members. On October 27-29, the panels will be hauled on a dual-axle flatbed trailer to an area just outside of Ensenada, Mexico. About 20 people from Bethany will travel south (passports are required) to participate in assembling the loft house which can be completed in just one day! More information will be forthcoming. Plan now to get your family involved! Connect 2 Ministries Haiti, July 23-31 We have a wonderful opportunity to return to Haiti for a construction and VBS trip. During our time there, our desire is to share the hope of the Gospel with 1,000+ children, as well as meet some practical needs through construction. This is our semi-annual "Friends and Family" trip. Total cost will be $1,900 which includes airline ticket, all meals in Haiti, transportation, interpreters, and accommodations. If you'd like more information about coming with us, we'd love to hear from you! Please contact Bob or Kari Amstutz at (310) 383-4454 or (805) 405-0353. Broadcaster 2

Interested in the National Bible Bee? What is it? The National Bible Bee's vision is: To know God's word and make Him known. Its mission is: To engage young people in the memorization and study of God's word and provide opportunities to proclaim it through local, national, and broadcast competitions. Who can Participate? Any child or young adult (Age 5-18) who would like the chance to learn more of God's word with other like-minded Christians. But this is not just a program for kids and young adults! Parents are highly encouraged to get involved as well by helping your kids through the studies and memorizing the passages yourself. When does it start? And how does it work? The study runs from June 5 to July 28. Even if it s too late for you to participate this year, you can begin for next year s competition to use age-appropriate study guides for your child or young adult. Each study guide goes over the same material and Bible passages, so an entire family can be studying the same curriculum. The curriculum helps them develop a love for and understanding of God's Word and helps them memorize the Bible passages relating to what they are learning. The Discovery Journal covers ages 5-18. At the end of an 8-week study and Bible memorization process, you will have the opportunity to potentially take a National Bible Bee Competition Qualifying Test to see if your young person is qualified to go to Nationals. There they can proclaim God's Word through the Bible passages they ve put to memory. They will also have the opportunity to proclaim what they ve learned to friends and family at the National Bible Bee Proclaim event! What s the cost? How do I sign up? You can go to Biblebee.org to register. The cost is $15 for registration, but that $15 gives you access to community and online support along with the opportunity to qualify for the National Bible Bee Competition. In addition, you get $5 off the Discovery Journal which is the (8 week) Bible Study Guide. (PDF version=$10, Hard Copy=$20, Hard Copy + PDF version= $25). So the minimum you'd have to spend is just $20!! ($15 to register + $5 for PDF of the Discovery Journal). Added Bonus! You will have a wonderful time of family fellowship! My wife and I, together with our two kids, will be doing this along with you if you who desire to join us. We will be here to encourage and support you and your family in this adventure of hiding God s Word in your heart! We will all get together at least 3 times over the summer to practice our memory verses and have a fun time getting to know one another (more details to come after you sign up and let us know of your interest). If you are interested in participating in the National Bible Bee this Summer or have any questions, please email Telly and Marilyn Chi at: marilynchi@gmail.com or call us at 805-908-5185. We would love to answer any of your questions and possibly have you join our family this summer in this National Bible Bee Adventure through the Scriptures! Broadcaster 6

Isaiah 61:3 "So they may be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified." Dr. Rick Warren, in his book, The Purpose Driven Life, says that servants must have a mindset of five attitudes: 1) Servants think more about others than about themselves. 2) Servants think like stewards, not owners. 3) Servants think more about their work for the Lord, not what others are doing. 4) Servants base their identity on Christ. 5) Servants think of ministry as an opportunity, not as an obligation. Another part of servanthood is fulfilling your life mission on earth as living for God's glory! Our mission on earth should be a continuation of Jesus' mission on earth! There are over 6 billion people on earth, and Jesus wants all of His lost children found!
