New Hope News July 15,2015 Jesus said, Come, follow me. But when the man heard this he went away sad. Luke 18:22 The Call to Worship beckons us to seek a more excellent way of life. We are urged to establish priorities of daily life which honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Created in the image of God, marred by the scars of carelessness and indifferences, we are reminded that we can grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ. We can become, more and more, like Him in nature and spirit. Don t sell yourself short it is Do-able The measure of our likeness is to be found in our following Him. We grow as we are willing to commit ourselves more completely to the Kingdom. We grow as we strengthen our life through prayer. We grow as we expand the sphere of love to include others. We grow as we learn the ART of giving of ourselves in service to God s holy purpose and Kingdom. Let us, in preparation for worship during these summer months, set aside a bit of time, to tune our spiritual senses to hear the gracious invitation of the Son of God, Come, Follow Me. Our congregation was greatly blessed on Sunday July 5th as Genna and Johnny Hargrave came forward at the conclusion of the worship service. As Genna said, we visited New Hope and left the service knowing that this was the right place for us. We are thrilled to accept the Hargrave family as part of our church family. Be sure to find them at the conclusion of worship and make them feel a New Hope Welcome! Counted among the joys of being a congregational body that seeks to serve Jesus Christ, are those moments when we bear witness to an act of dedication and commitment. At the conclusion of worship this past Sunday, Dale Adams set his feet upon the path of discipleship as he come forward and confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We can further anticipate the joy of sharing in his baptism in the very near future. God gave us a marvelous gift in worship this past Sunday.

Please notify the office when folks are better so we can remove them from the Prayer List. Sometimes, in order to keep the list from becoming unwieldy, we have to pare it down. We certainly don t want to remove a name that needs to remain, but neither can we continue to add names without removing some. So if you have placed a name on the prayer list that can now be removed, please let us know. In general names will be removed after 1 month unless you let us know that they need to stay on the list. Central Area Disciples Women Meeting New Hope will be hosting the Central Area Disciples Women Summer Area Meeting on Tuesday, August 25th. Coffee and goodies at 9:30, Meeting at 10:00 and Lunch at 12:00. Here is your opportunity to let the women of central Oklahoma know what a wonderful place New Hope is. NHCC s own Penny Hampton is the Director this year and she will most likely need your help to make sure everything goes well. If she asks...just say YES! 2

At VBS, It's All About Jesus! July 31st August 1st At Camp Discovery, kids have fun as they explore the Bible, make new friends, sing songs, and learn how Jesus works through them in their everyday lives. Campers discover 5 Bible truths that excite and challenge them. Jesus, their True North, gives them the wisdom and the courage to step out in faith and serve whether they re at school, playing with friends, or helping out at home. Now, that s a VBS with purpose! This year, VBS will be mobile. We will be taking a road trip to Dallas, Texas for some fun activities. VBS will be taught to and from Dallas while we're on the road. It's an awesome way to utilize the time between destinations. You are asked to begin your prayers now for the children and adults for a successful trip and safe journeys. How to Beat the Heat! The children of New Hope Christian Church have figured out a way to beat the heat this summer by taking a big refreshing splash to cool down. A quick dip in multiple pools, a slip n' slide, several hundred water filled balloons in conjunction with a few tasty frozen treats and ice cold beverages was just what was needed to make our Sunday morning extra special. Everyone had a blast! 3

Food Pantry News On the first Sunday of each month everyone at New Hope is asked to contribute to Food Pantry Sunday either by bringing food items or donating money to help our neighbors who are less fortunate. The Missions Committee has chosen to assist our sister congregation Hillcrest Christian by donating this food and money to their Mobile Meals Ministry. While they will be happy to receive any food (or cash) contributions NHCC might offer, they did send a list of the items they use most often to help both them and us in this joint effort. Here is the list for Mobile Meals regular needs: Large (but not gallon) veggies & fruit are preferable when available, otherwise regular size will do. Evaporated milk (cans) Baked Beans Blacked-eyed Peas Creamed Soups (chicken & tomato) Egg Noodles Spaghetti Os Green Beans Corn Ketchup Macaroni & Cheese (boxed) Onion Soup Mix Peas Ranch Style Beans Spaghetti Spaghetti Sauce Tomato Sauce Tomatoes Stove Top Stuffing Sweet Potatoes (canned) Canned fruit: applesauce, fruit cocktail, peaches, etc. Cookies Chicken (cans) 4
