Vol. 57, Num. 14, April 8, 2018 Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy April 8, 2018 SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that [e]veryone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God (5:1) what we might refer to as being born again. Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The community of believers was of one heart and mind (Acts 4:32-35). Psalm Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Psalm 118). Second Sunday of Easter Page 4 UPCOMING EVENTS ST. CHRISTOPHER OUTREACH HELP LINE We continue to make food available for our parishioners in need. During the following weeks of Lent, we wish to ask each household to bring one food item with them to Mass and place them in the baskets at the entrance alcove of church. This will help us greatly to prepare our monthly baskets especially with Easter coming. We are low on tomato sauce and spaghetti, cans of Chef Boyardee, chili, various beans, tuna, fruit and meat like chicken, Vienna sausage and spam. We are also very low on peanut butter and jelly. We regularly use packs of grits, oatmeal, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese, rice and pasta mixes and regular size boxes or bags of cereal. We are also out of bags of beans and rice, soups and drinks like Kool aid, lemonade and tea bags. Your generosity is and always will be appreciated especially by those who ask us for food and help.
