Yearly Financial Report God has been so good to us as a parish community and you have been so good in being good stewards. This year s report reflects how the resources you have donated, on a regular basis, have benefited the various aspects of our ministries, the projects that we support, and the upkeep of our property and its buildings. Stewardship is taking care of what you own and each of you have a stake in our parish. If you are not familiar with how to read this report, or there is a need for further explanation, see the Bulletin Board at the church entrance which gives some further information and insight, or ask me and I ll will do my best to help you figure it out. Although I am not a financial expert I can work my way through most reports and this one I am very familiar with. Assisting with this report has been Nancy Lui-Kwan. our Business Administrator, Devon Knight our Assistant Bookkeeper, and the members of our Financial Council which includes: Kevin McCrary(Chair), Ivan Ishii, Mel Frietas, Niall Kilcommons, and Patrick Mulcahy. Their valuable insight, financial astuteness, and common sense have guided me in the proper allocation of the funds that we receive and proper disbursements as needed. I thank them for guiding me with their wisdom and knowledge. Again, I want to thank all of you for your generous support of our parish. Because of your generosity we did not need to have any extraordinary fund-raising efforts. Particularly, your constant support of our monthly Major Maintenance Fund allowed us to install new louvers in our gym and replace one of the 10 ton Air Conditioning units on the church roof all because of your constant and faithful generosity. Mahalo and God s blessings, Fr. Mike 2

Those who attended learned ways on how to ensure that their final wishes are followed and how to avoid costly probate by wise planning. In addition, methods were discussed on how to provide for our families, our charities, and our church. Also, mahalo to Deacon Steve who provided technical support enabling the parish to utilize our new projection system. 4

Annual Holy Trinity Church Food Festival Sunday, October 22, 2017 ; 3 6 PM Ticket sales start today for our annul Food Festival. Look for the table near the entrance to the Church. Join us for tastings of food from several different countries. We will also have a Country Store and a Desert Booth. - Let Our Generosity Be Unabating For the past several weeks, you have seen notices from the USCCB and Bishop Silva asking parishes to hold emergency collections for the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Recovery is expected to take years and billions of dollars. Unfortunately, the season is not yet over. Jose threatens our East Coast and Maria, now a Category 5 storm, is expected to take the same route as Irma. We ask that you continue to be generous in your giving and relentless in your prayers. EXTRA THRIFT SHOP HOURS We will also be open during the Food Fest on Sunday, October 22 from 3 pm 6 pm. Please take advantage of these opportunities to support our Thrift Shop. FOODLAND GIVE ALOHA Foodland s Give Aloha Program has started and will run for most of September. The program stretches your giving dollar. When you are checking out let the cashier know you would like to make a donation to Holy Trinity. Tell them the dollar amount and give them our number which is 77352. For each dollar you donate they will match a percentage of it. HTCYYA Holy Trinity Youth & Young Adult Ministry Confirmation Meetings have started! We meet every Sunday, 10 a.m. - 10:55 a.m. in our former school's 8th grade classroom. Confirmation is open to students in the 9th - 11th grades who have been BAPTIZED and received their first HOLY COMMUNION. Pet Blessing We will be having a Pet Blessing to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, October 1 at 2pm. Father Mike will bless each pet individually. You can bring a picture of your pet if you are unable to bring the pet. We will meet in the breezeway between the church parking lot and the school, where the old school office used to be. We had over 50 families attend last year. It s a great opportunity to meet your fellow parishioners in a fun, outdoor setting! Deacon Fernando Ona: Assigned to our Parish Community. In a letter dated, September 13th 2017, Bishop Larry Silva wrote the following to Deacon Ona and sent a copy to Fr. Mike. In it he wrote the following: Dear Deacon Ona, Peace be with you! After prayerful consideration of your request to transfer your diaconal service from Mary, Star of the Sea Church to Holy Trinity, I am hereby assigning you to diaconal ministry at Holy Trinity Church, Honolulu, effective immediately. Your new assignment will be published in the next issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald. Thank you for all you have done at Mary, Star of the Sea Church, and may the Lord bless your ministry at Holy Trinity. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Rev. Yes, that s what I have been for over 48 years...following in the footsteps of St. Francis as a member of the Capuchin community. Last year perhaps many of you never heard or met a Capuchin until I arrived here at the parish. Since then I hope that you have learned a little about me and our community. This is my third pastorate, in our Diocese, since 1996 when I arrived here from Guam having served there for many years. My parish experiences have been wonderful and blessed and my first year at Holy Trinity has been just as exciting. Each year Bishop Larry allows we religious to take up a yearly collection for the support of our communities. In our case, the Capuchins, any donations that are received from these collections are used to support our retired Friars and seminarians. Currently we have several retired priests and four seminarians who are preparing for future ministry in the church. On the weekend of Sept. 30 th -October 1 st a second collection will be taken up and your generosity is very much appreciated. God bless you and Mahalo for allowing me to serve as your pastor. [Fr. They are coming to us one day earlier than usual and will be with us for 8 days, rather than 7 days. This will give them time to get settled so they can fully enjoy our Food Fest on Sun. We are expecting between 3-5 families from the Windward Network. We need volunteers to clean the Makai House, prepare and host dinners, do laundry, donate food and supplies. Gift cards to Longs, Safeway, Costco will also be appreciated. If you are able to assist in any way, please leave a message for Gloria Zane at the church office, or email her at gloria.zane@hawaiiantel.net Mahalo for your kokua. 6

Stewardship Corner Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Lesson 64 Lazarus Come Forth Lord behold he whom Thou loves is sick when Jesus heard this He remained two days (Acts 20:7-12) We know the story; how Jesus went back, but Lazarus was dead. When Jesus arrived at the tomb, He asked the stone be removed and over objections, it was. Then Jesus commanded Lazarus come forth and he did. Then Jesus said loose his bandages let him go. Why did Jesus wait two days? Why did Jesus ask the stone be removed and for the bandages as well? Couldn t He have commanded these Himself? The Gospel writer perhaps suggests that the greater miracle is the raising of the dead not the healing of the sick; and this is perhaps the trust that Jesus asks of us. He asks that we trust in His word and use His gifts as true stewards of oneanother.
