Church Office Hours Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Email: annanazsec@frontier.com Office Phone: 618-833-6702 J U L Y 2 0 1 8 Sunday School is Vital to Growth The 2018 2019 church year is off to a great start! God is moving and demonstration of His presence is evident. Recently, was presented with an opportunity to visit a few different Sunday school classes. My time has been nothing short of a blessing as have been witness to testimonies of miraculous healings, freedom from years of bondage, testimonies of restoration, and of God s grace & mercy. found myself overjoyed while gathering with my brothers and sisters in Christ. No doubt, God is moving within our Sunday school classes! Have you ever asked yourself why Sunday school is essential? Here are several reasons as identified by an article found on Church Effectiveness: Sunday School provides a structure for teaching God s Word. Preaching isn t enough. A systematic teaching of the Scriptures not just preaching (Acts 5:42) occurs through all age levels. Children, youth, and adults need opportunities for discovery, review, and interact as they study God s principles. Sunday School gears Bible teaching to a specific age group (Deut. 31:12). t means a wiggly toddler can discover great biblical truth by acting out Bible stories and singing fun songs. During the same hour, senior adults may discuss whether their relationship with their spouse or responses to daily crises reflect their trust in God. Both age groups leave Sunday school with specific applications for the week. Sunday School mobilizes and trains for leadership. t s difficult to say who benefits more, the teacher or the student. The teacher s Bible knowledge and care grow, his/her life is changed, and maturity occurs as leadership skills are developed. Students learn and are challenged, as does the teacher. Sunday School is discipleship! Every shepherd/teacher must have a desire to see each student in his/ her flock have a spiritual life change. Since discipleship is teaching to obey all have commanded you (Matt. 28:20), it s not merely teaching facts, but teaching obedience. Where the pastor finds it impossible to know all the needs of the congregation, Sunday school teachers (shepherds) know when someone is absent or hurting and can express love personally. Sunday School is convenient. With the work, family and activity schedules of many church members, it is easier to come to church one hour earlier than to arrange another night out during the week. Sunday School leads the church in prayer and relationships. From the preschool class through the adult classes, prayer is directed toward the specific needs of the class members. Bottom line we need constant fellowship and spiritual growth. Sunday School is an important tool in providing this! t is one of the most consistent spiritual disciplines within the church CONTNUED ON PAGE 2

2 CONTNUED FROM PAGE 1 Our dedicated teachers lead the church in this very important ministry. They provide a learning environment that lends to spending time together, building connections, appreciating one another, sharing, caring, loving, and praying for each other. encourage you to invite, welcome, and promote visitors to explore their options. Anna Church of the Nazarene has a learning experience at any age level for everyone. When you see our teachers please show your appreciation and maybe even switch things up a bit one Sunday and drop in to check it out! Classes for Children Carla Ramage The nursery provides the youngest members of our church family, children birth through preschool, a safe nurturing environment. Music, books, floor play, games, snacks, and crafts help kids learn about God. Nina Shepard & Marshall Ramage The kindergarten through third grade class is packed with opportunities for fun, fellowship, lively discussion, and action-packed learning. Students discover God and grow in their relationship with Him. Joyce Johnson, Marilyn Elkins, & Jessica Elkins Fourth through sixth grade students use their deepening thinking abilities to grow in their understanding of what the Bible says and means. Their studies encourage them to mature in their faith and to express their commitment in everyday life. Class for Youth Jack Shepard Students from seventh grade through twelfth grade engage in Biblical lessons that build spiritual maturity, deepen their relationship with God, and empower them be the person God designed them to be. Classes for Adults Nancy Smith Beginning the 1 st of July members will begin a study on science and the Bible. This four-week study will examine biblical references as it relates to scientific questions providing relevance for us today. Larry Fuller Members dig deeper through God's Word as they engage in the Adult Faith Connections Bible Study Guide. During the months of June - August they will explore the books of Jeremiah and Lamentations. Their studies discover biblical truth providing significant application in this day and age. Yvonne Graham Members dig deeper through God's Word as they engage in the Adult Faith Connections Bible Study Guide.
