THE TESTIMONY OF THE TWO WITNESSES AND THE SEVENTH TRUMPET Revelation 11 INTRODUCTION This is definitely Jewish in its context 1. The Jewish temple NOTE: Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. Revelation 11:1-2 NKJV 2. Jerusalem NOTE: And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. Revelation 11:8 KJV 3. The ark NOTE: God s sanctuary in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant appeared in His sanctuary. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings of thunder, an earthquake, and severe hail. Revelation 11:19 HCSB This is one of the most difficult and one of the most important chapters in the Revelation. I. THE TWO WITNESSES Revelation 11:1-14 A. The Period Of Their Ministry 1-4 1. The measuring vs. 1 a. This indicates the idea of an impending claim NOTE: Surveyors at a new home b. This signifies this belongs to God in a special way

Their bodies lay in the open for 3 1 / 2 days to be seem by the whole world NOTE: O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. The dead bodies of Your servants They have given as food for the birds of the heavens, The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth. Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem, And there was no one to bury them. Psalm 79:1-3 NKJV NOTE: Why should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants be known among the nations before our eyes! Let the groans of the prisoners come before you; according to your great power, preserve those doomed to die! Psalm 79:10-11 ESV 3. "They that dwell on the earth" a. As Creator NOTE: the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created. As Redeemer NOTE: Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
