He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18 19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. From the Pastor's Desk October 30, 2011 Praise God for bringing us through the summer season. As we move into the fall season it is a good time to seek God for renewal and revival. KINGDOMTIED August 28 November 26 (The pulpit attire is Green) 2 We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: TRADITION AND WISDOM The study of this quarter is a survey of Old Testament wisdom literature, as well as an examination of Jesus teachings on wisdom. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: JESUS TEACHES WISDON These five lessons examine Jesus Sermon on the Mount and its relationship to the traditional teaching of Mosaic Law. The first four lessons, taken from Matthew 5 & 6, give attention to what Jesus says to disciples about living, forgiving, loving, and praying. The final lesson invites the participants to hear a new Jesus words about worry free living. THIS WEEK S: LIVING AS GOD S PEOPLE Matthew 5:1 12 UNIT #2 Jesus shares the Beatitudes as part of the Sermon on the Mount. In it, He identifies traits that are pleasing to Him and notes ways that God blesses those who seek Him first and strive to live as His people. NEXT WEEK S: November 6, 2011 FORGIVING AS GOD S PEOPLE Matthew 5:17 26 Jesus teaches wisdom as it applies to our attitude toward Him and in the way we relate to others. Specifically, keeping the law requires more than outward obedience. It requires a change of heart. CLASSES FOR EVERYONE!! MOBC HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. MOBC Healthcare Ministry OCTOBER IS MONTH American Cancer Society Empowering men/women to make strides against breast cancer 5 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life! Healthcare Ministry The Healthcare Ministry and Va. Blood Services are sponsoring our Fall Blood Drive on Sunday, November 6th. A sign up sheet is located on the table outside of the church office. At our last blood drive 27 units of blood were collected, we hope to surpass that mark at this drive. Please sign up today. Whether it s personal or at work we are always trying to maintain our relationships. Here is our chance to come together and learn how God wants to make us to truly build authentic relationships. I n t e r c e s s o r y P r a y e r C o r n e r Month of October Temperance Love s Self control Father in the name of Jesus, give me the ability to control my emotions, behavior, and desire in order to have virtue, humbleness, forgiveness and mercy. As I trust in you and you direct my path, strengthen me so that I am not controlled by the standards of the flesh. Help me not to react impulsively but more in accordance with the Spirit of God. I submit my thoughts, mind, flesh, and tongue to you. I repent of every word that has proceeded out against God and man. Lord I cast down every imagination that try to control me for I have the mind of Christ. Guard my mouth and heart with all diligence. I speak the world of life in faith and love to produce good things. I think on things that are true, honest, just, lovely, pure, and of a good report. Renew my mind to be good acceptable and the perfect will of God in my life. I set my mind on things above, so everything that is done is right before God. In Jesus Name.
