An additional intention may be requested PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION In 1592 with heresies growing in Europe and a hostile invading Muslim force on the East, Pope Clement VIII instituted the 40 Hour devotion for the protection of the Church. This brought the faithful together before the Blessed Sacrament to adore Jesus and beg for the safety of the Church. Two centuries later, in 1809, Napoleon had risen to power and Pope Pius VII was taken prisoner. It was then that a pious priest in Rome gathered men together to pray each night before the Blessed Sacrament for the protection of the Church. It was an extension of the 40 Hour devotion. This was the start of Nocturnal Adoration in the Church. We are blessed to have Perpetual Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Each day of the week there are several night hours that need a Guardian to be with Jesus to adore Him and to pray His blessing on the Church. It is a pious expression of love for Jesus to keep Him company during the night remembering His imprisonment Holy Thursday night. Will you console Jesus? He asks for one hour of your love and adoration. We have a great need for nocturnal Guardians. Please say yes. Call Marty/Clarice Suchy 692-4510 Monday 4-5AM Wednesday 2-3 AM Wednesday 4-5AM Friday 1-2 AM Friday 3-4AM Saturday 2-3AM 2018 PARISH MASS BOOK TO OPEN On Wednesday, October 18th, the 2018 Parish Mass Book will open. Requests MUST be made in person, NOT by phone. Requests will be recorded in the Gymnasium from 9:00am-3:00pm. Also requests will be made from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the rectory. You may request up to a total of SIX masses, but not more than TWO may be on a Saturday evening or Sunday masses. An offering for an announced mass is $15.00. Please come prepared with your names dates and times ready to be recorded in the Mass book.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE The fall campaign begins on September 27 th. Please join in this prayerful effort to eliminate abortion. Your prayers, your sacrifices, your fasting are critical to the success of our efforts. Perhaps you are also able to stand witness at Planned Parenthood on Coates Drive in Goshen. The vigil takes place from 7AM-6PM every day through November 5th. While our parish is committed to every Monday please join the vigil whenever you have time. There is a table up in the back of the church for anyone interesed in signing up this weekend. CHOIR RESUMES Choir rehearsals resume Thursdays beginning Sept 21 in the church choir loft at 7pm. Anyone interested in joining is welcome. Questions? Speak to our Music Director Joseph Bertolozzi after Mass. APOSTOLATE OF PRAYER Parishes of the Orange County Vicariate are uniting in prayer each day throughout the year for the members of our beloved clergy. Only by forgiving the sins of others, can a person expect to be forgiven his sins. Second Reading: Romans 14:7-9 Paul stresses that no one is his own master; we are responsible to the Lord, and we belong to him in both life and death. Gospel: Matthew 18:21-35 This narrative points out the difference between mercy and justice. When Peter asks how often he should forgive someone who wrongs him, Jesus answers, not seven times: I say seventy times seven times. Jesus then narrates the story of the king who was merciful to his official by forgiving him all his debts, but this same official showed no mercy to his own servant. Jesus said: This is My Body This is My Blood Could you not watch one hour with Me? WHEN? Any hour of the day or night, any day of the week. WHERE? The Blessed Sacrament Chapel here at St. Joseph Church. WHY? To give God the adoration that is due Him and to continue our thanksgiving for the sacrament of the Eucharist. WHY COMMIT? The exposed Blessed Sacrament must never be left alone. There are 168 hours in the week and we must know that someone will be there each hour. Guardians permit the chapel to remain open for anyone who wants to visit. GUARDIAN? A Guardian of the Blessed Sacrament is an adorer who commits to visit Jesus each week at a particular time. For example you might choose Tuesday at 6PM or Sunday at 2AM. The choice is yours. Every hour is a good one and Jesus will be waiting for you! NO TIME? How much time do you spend on the internet, Facebook or in other leisure activities? No other activity is worth as much as an hour with our Lord. WHAT S IN IT FOR ME? The rewards are out of this world! Truly heavenly! HOW DO I SIGN UP? Call the rectory 343-6013, or call Clarice or Marty Suchy 845-692-4510. Perpetual Adoration at the Church of St. Joseph 149 Cottage Street Middletown, NY 10940
