Order of Service, Vespers (p. 120) ~Hymn 292 v. 1-4 O Dearest Jesus ~Confession of Sin (p. 120) P: Dearly beloved! We have come together in the presence of God our heavenly Father, to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at His hand, to set forth His most worthy praise, to hear His holy Word, and to ask for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and salvation. O come, let us worship Him! Let us kneel and bow down before Him. Let us confess our sins with penitent hearts, and obtain forgiveness by His infinite grace and mercy. C: Almighty and most merciful Father, we have strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed the devices and desires of our hearts. We have offended against Your holy law. We have done those things which we should not have done, and we have not done those things which we should have done. Have mercy on us, O Lord! Spare us and restore us, according to the promises You have declared to us in Jesus Christ, our Lord. For His sake grant that we may live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of Your holy name. P: The almighty and merciful Lord has granted us pardon and forgiveness of all our sins, grace for true repentance and amendment of life, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen. ~Versicles (pp. 120-121) P: O Lord, open my lips. C: And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. P: Make haste, O God, to deliver me. C: Make haste to help me, O Lord. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: forevermore. Amen.

~Psalmody Psalm 33 (Read Responsively) P: Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. C: Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. P: Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. C: For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth. P: He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. C: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. P: He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. C: Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. P: For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. C: The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. P: The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. C: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. P: The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. C: From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; P: He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. C: No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. P: A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. C: Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, P: To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. C: Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. P: For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. C: Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, just as we hope in You. ALL: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, forever more. Amen. 2

~Vocal Quartet: Oh, Come, My Soul Oh, come, my soul, your Savior see Nailed to your cross on Calvary. Your pains He bears; Your thorns He wears That yours a crown of life might be. Eggert 'Tis yours, my soul, the sin, the shame, The cross, the nails, the thirst, the pain; In agony His blood runs free To write in heaven's book your name. Oh, sing, my soul, sing endlessly The wondrous love that sets you free; His dying breath Brings life from death, Makes heav'n your home eternally. ~The Passion History #3 ~Responsory (p. 122) P: O Lord, have mercy upon us. C: Thanks be to You, O Lord! ~Hymn 292 vv 5, 11, 15 The Sinless Son of God ~Sermon Text Luke 23:32-34 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided His garments and cast lots. ~Sermon Theme Turn to Jesus; He Longs to Forgive You ~Offering (Visitors: Please place guest cards in offering plate) 3

~Versicle (p. 122) P: Let my prayers rise before You as incense: C: And the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. ~Nunc Dimittis (p. 124) ~Kyrie (p. 124) C: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. 4

~Lord s Prayer (p. 125) C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the pow r and the glory forever and ever. Amen. ~Collect (pp. 126-127, form II) P: Abide with us, Lord, for it is toward evening and the day is far spent. Abide with us and with Your whole Church. Abide with us in the end of the day, in the end of our life, and in the end of the world. Abide with us with Your grace and goodness, with Your holy Word and Sacrament, with Your strength and blessing. Abide with us when the night of affliction and temptation comes upon us, the night of fear and despair when death shall come. Abide with us and with all the faithful through time and eternity. C: Amen. ~Benedicamus (p. 127) P: Let us bless the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. ~Benediction (p. 127) P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: Amen. ~ Hymn 569 v. 5 Lord Jesus, Who Dost Love Me Preacher: Pastor Gary Wong (St. Paul s)/ Organist: Elisabeth Urtel Four or More, a cappella: Carl Bloedel, Jim Gullixson, Bob Fosburgh, and Dean Kluge 5
