The Sermon The Reverend Walter Brownridge A brief period of silence is observed for reflection on the sermon. The people stand. The Nicene Creed All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

The Prayers of the Leader We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Let us pray for the Church and for the world. For the Church of God, for Michael, our Presiding Bishop, for Wendell, our Bishop, for all who minister in Christ s Church, and for the people of God in every place, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For those in positions of public trust, especially the President of the United States, our elected officials and the judiciary, that they may serve justice and promote the dignity and freedom of every person, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the mission of the Church, for the peace of the world, that we may be faithful witnesses to your love and mercy, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For all who have commended themselves to our prayers, for those on our parish cycle of prayer (N.), we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For the healing of the sick (N.), for the relief of the suffering (N.), and for the comfort of all who are close to death, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For refugees, immigrants and all who come to us as strangers, that they may know the welcome of Christ, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For those expecting babies, and for those who give life to others, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For ourselves, our families and friends, and those we love, and for those who do not know love, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. For those who rest in Christ (N.) and for all the dead, we pray to you, O Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. We pray for our own needs, and those of others; The people may add their own petitions. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. The concludes with a collect and the people respond Amen.

The Confession and Absolution Gospeller Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. The people kneel. A brief period of silence is observed. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The offers the absolution, and the people respond Amen. The people stand. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Let us pray for those in our congregation who are celebrating a birthday or an anniversary. O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on your servants as they begin another year. Grant that they may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Offertory The people remain seated while the offering is collected. Foolish and groundless cares assail our minds, often with madness, they fill our hearts, which are bereft of hope. What does it profit you, O mortal man, to strive after earthly things, if you neglect those of Heaven? All things are favorable to you if God is with you. The people stand as the gifts are presented.
