Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church February 12, 2017 SO FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE REMAIN, THESE THREE; BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE. 1 Corinthians 13:13 Intelligence is a valuable and informative tool, but alone it is only a tool. It is LOVE that impels us to act. We are fed information all the time. Television, the Internet, movies, computers, newspapers, and magazines are all sources of information about what is going on in our neighborhood, country, and in our world. But all those sources that feed our brains cannot make us act. The amount of information we have says nothing about us as human beings. What we do with that information tells the world what kind or man or woman we are. Information that feeds our intelligence is a valuable tool; in the end it is we who choose to love and to show compassion. Compassion is felt love in action. When we hear of challenges that our brothers and sisters experience every day, we are motivated to reach out to them in love. If we are close enough to them we can reach out in person in a compassionate way. When we cannot be there ourselves we often send our resources to others who will reach out in our name. Although we would like to give of ourselves in person, we express our compassion by financially supporting projects we believe are helping others. Our wallets and pocketbooks say plenty about what we value in life. We are God s stewards on earth today. Our compassionate outreach to others is important. The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal, TOGETHER IN MISSION, has given our parishes in the Archdiocese a fair and practical way to financially help those parishes and schools that need some assistance to keep open. Our financial help supports personal gospel-centered service to our brothers and sisters in poorer areas of our Archdiocese. Keeping a school or parish functioning is a practical way to make the Good News of Jesus Christ a reality to our brothers and sisters in need in our own city. When we provide financial help to a parish, we are supporting their efforts to build community among themselves as well as encouraging family life. Many adults and children in poor areas experience violence each day. Helping to provide a good education to a young person, or supporting a community of loving people in a violence prone area, helps build our city into a more peaceful place. WHEN WE REACH OUT TO OTHERS, IT ALSO BENEFITS US. When one part of the Body of Christ suffers; we all suffer... I Corinthians 12:27 Every parish in the Archdiocese participates in this fundraiser. Those in need draw from the monies raised. Some schools and parishes are in need of more help some years. Some years, the needed assistance is smaller. In each case those parishes and schools that are assisted have already contributed to Together in Mission. Most Catholics understand that their charitable giving is not only an act of compassion, reaching out to those in need in a loving way, but also an act of Justice. We are building a more Just World when we see our assets as an opportunity to support and build up a community of people, who are trying to live the Gospel each day, and need the financial support to make building that community easier. TOGETHER IN MISSION has been a meaningful outreach for us in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. As Mother Teresa used to say, We are serving Jesus in the distressing guise of the poor. When we help schools and parishes in need, we are simply supporting the efforts of priests, sisters, lay ministers, principals and teachers, and good Christian men and women, to build the Kingdom of God in their midst. These communities, working together, help make neighborhoods that are poor, safer and more welcoming. We ask that you prayerfully consider your ability to help TOGETHER IN MISSION THIS YEAR. Please consider a pledge. Even if you can afford only $100.00, you can make payments over the next five or six months. Every generous pledge or donation will help us reach our goal for 2017. A special thanks to our many parishioners who have helped TOGETHER IN MISSION over the years. You have made a real difference in the lives of those this campaign has helped. Many of you who have helped in the past have been contacted by the Together in Mission Office. Please consider continuing your financial support for this worthy effort. There are envelopes in the pews for those who would like to make a pledge to help this year. Again, a sincere thanks to all our parishioners for your generosity and support of so many worthy projects. Sincerely yours in Christ, Monsignor Robert J. Gallagher

The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools.
