May 14, 2017 ST. ROSE OF LIMA PARISH Page 3 THE WAY Fifth Sunday of Easter Today we sense the apostles trepidation as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. In their fear, they ask, Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? (John 14:5). Jesus tells them that he is the way. The Easter season has been a time of growing in Easter faith so that we, too, may learn to know that Jesus is the way. We can take comfort in the Lord s promise that he is going to his Father s house to prepare a place for us, his chosen people who have been called out of darkness into God s wonderful light. As the paschal candle continues to burn during this holy season, let us remember that in baptism we were given the light of Christ. With Christ our light as the beacon lighting our way, let us march toward the glory of Pentecost. SHARING FRANCISCAN SPIRITUALITY - BY SR. JO. As we celebrate the love of our own mothers this Mothers Day weekend, it is very fitting to remember the special Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the six apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal from May 13 until October 13, 1917. Mary has the heart of a mother who cares for all her children and wishes them to be saved by her divine Son, Jesus. Each year an estimated 4-5 million people visit Fatima, and more are expected throughout the centennial year, including a visit by Pope Francis. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us and may all mothers be blessed today and forever! St. Rose of Lima Church, will be holding our own V Encuentro, which consists of 5 sessions held in small groups, concluding with a Parish Celebration. During this springtime month of the year we traditionally honor Our Blessed Mother by special devotions: - Say the rosary, often - How to leaflets are at the entrances to the Church - Come for morning Mass with group rosary said twenty minutes before each Mass - We have a pilgrim virgin visitation to our parish homes whereby a blessed statue of Mary is brought to your home for your family and friends to honor her. This is a wonderful way to enrich your family prayer life by gathering around her each day to say the rosary. She travels from home to home through the work of the Legion of Mary and can be brought to your home by just putting your name in the home visitation book on the podium at the main church entrance or leaving your request at the parish office. - Have enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your home by leaving your request at the parish office. This is also very much recommended to follow the pilgrim virgin visit because Mary s work is to bring her Son to us and us to Him. The first Emmaus Retreat was held in the Archdiocese of Miami at the Dominican Retreat House in 1978. It was developed and conducted by a team of laywomen from St. Louis Church in Kendall and since has spread to parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Miami, other cities, states and even internationally. The retreat is based on the scripture passage found in Luke 24:13-35, where Jesus appears to two disciples who are on the road to Emmaus, after Jesus' resurrection. The retreat offers a unique opportunity for personal, spiritual growth simply by discovering a new relationship with God and others. It allows time for you to reflect and affords you the opportunity to meet Jesus on your personal journey; to get away and look at yourself as a Christian / Catholic. It helps you to focus your life in a more positive and meaningful way. The retreat guides you through a series of reflections given by laypersons on all aspects of life - spiritual, emotional, physical and relational. You will come away with a renewed sense of priorities. The retreat begins on Friday evening when we meet at St Rose Church and concludes Sunday afternoon after our Family & Friends Celebration (also at St Rose). It is coordinated by the men of St. Rose of Lima. General Information Start - We will meet on Friday, June 2nd at 5:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 415 NE 105th St. Miami, FL 33138 Retreat Location The retreat itself will be held at CHALI HOUSE, 3225 NW 8TH Ave, Miami, Florida 33127.
