June Mission Project The WUMC Missions Work Area has selected UMCOR U.S. Disaster Relief as our June Mission Project. With the beauty of spring also can come the ugliness of spring. Some natural disasters have already occurred. Recent examples are flooding in Missouri and Arkansas and tornados in Texas. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to dozens of disasters every year and is there, even when the news cameras are not. UMCOR U.S. Disaster Relief responds in the aftermath of storms in the United States with relief kits, tarps, blankets and trained Volunteer Response Teams. Also, UMCOR personnel remain in the affected areas long after the initial disaster has struck to help and empower communities to move forward to a better future. If you would like to help with this important effort, please make your check to Wesley UMC with U.S. Disaster on the memo line or visit our website at www.charlestonwesley.org and click on the $ button at the bottom of the page. If you prefer to make a cash donation, there are blue mission offering envelopes in the pew backs. Thank you very much for your support. The Missions Work Area UMCOR School Bags Volunteers are needed to sew pre-cut schoolbags which we will fill later in July. Pick up a bundle of fabric and the NEW easy sewing directions from the table just outside the sanctuary door. Stitch them on your home machine, and return finished bags to the table soon (July 2 is the deadline). Our July mission project will be filling the bags for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) distribution overseas wherever there is a need for school supplies. Don t Forget About Church Camp! Church Camp could be the highlight of your summer! There is something powerful about getting together with other kids and seeing what it means to follow Jesus today. Wonderful opportunities for fun, adventure, and fellowship are offered at FOUR Illinois locations. Camp brochures are available in the office and on tables around the church. Visit the website at www.igrc.org/camping. Wesley helps with one half the registration up to $325.00. Don t miss the fun! Scholarships are available if there is a need. change the world weekend blessed many folks! Thanks go to all of you who were literally Christ's hands and feet on Change the World Weekend, May 20-21. You helped spread God's caring love, and you have been blessed and changed by your deeds of service to others. A debt of gratitude goes to the leaders in the five areas who have made sure that the projects were accomplished and to the Church and Society Ministry Team who planned and executed this event. Kudos to those who planted flowers; to those who packaged rice and beans; to those who served lunch at PADS; to those who visited our shut-ins and nursing home residents; and to our Helping Hands folks who did light home maintenance tasks. Thanks to Alan and Becky Metzger who provided meat for the celebratory cookout potluck on the 21 st, and to the men who were our grill masters. THANKS, WUMC, for helping us Change the World in Charleston! 3 P a g e
