Preparation for Worship You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Romans 13:14 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:16-18,24 The world means the organization and the mind and the outlook of mankind as it ignores God. Martyn Lloyd-Jones Worldliness is an accepted part of our way of life. Our religious mood is social instead of spiritual. We have lost the art of worship. We are not producing saints. Our models are successful businessmen, celebrated athletes and theatrical personalities. We carry on our religious activities after the methods of the modern advertiser. AW Tozer

THE ORDER OF WORSHIP The Prelude piano-organ duet Matters of Church Life +The Call to Worship Colossians 3:1-2 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. +The Hymn of Praise (stanzas 1 & 3) Hymn No. 26 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe His craft and pow r are great, and, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. And tho this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph thru us. The prince of darkness grim, we tremble not for him His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure: One little word shall fell him. Affirmation of Faith Romans 8:5-7 Unison For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Corporate Prayer

+The Hymn of Thanksgiving (stanzas 1, 2 & 4) Hymn No. 277 All I Have Is Christ CCLI License #11216176 I once was lost in darkest night Yet thought I knew the way The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave I had no hope that You would own A rebel to Your will And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still But as I ran my hell-bound race Indifferent to the cost You looked upon my helpless state And led me to the cross And I beheld God's love displayed You suffered in my place You bore the wrath reserved for me Now all I know is grace Hallelujah all I have is Christ Hallelujah Jesus is my life Now Lord I would be Yours alone And live so all might see The strength to follow Your commands Could never come from me O Father use my ransomed life In any way You choose And let my song forever be My only boast is You (Repeat Chorus) Presentation of Tithes & Offerings The Offertory Give Me Jesus CCLI License #11216176 In the morning when I rise, In the morning when I rise In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus Give me Jesus give me Jesus You can have all this world, but give me Jesus Worship Ensemble

And when I am alone, Oh and when I am alone And when I am alone, give me Jesus (Repeat Chorus) And when I come to die, Oh and when I come to die And when I come to die, give me Jesus Give me Jesus give me Jesus You can have all this world, You can have all this world You can have all this world, but give me Jesus +The Doxology and Prayer of Dedication Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. +Hymn of Preparation (stanzas 1, 2 & 5) Hymn No. 379 In Christ Alone CCLI License #11216176 In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light my strength my song This Cornerstone this solid Ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love what depths of peace When fears are stilled when strivings cease My Comforter my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life's first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I'll stand The Scripture 1 John 2:9-17 9 Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

The Sermon Notes: Growing in Christ: Love Your Brother, Hate the World? The Rev. Russ Hightower Knowing Jesus Changes Everything Greatest Commandment (Dt.6:5; Mk.12:30) heart, soul, mind & strength the whole person Hearts (worship): falling in love with Jesus (Lk.24:32) Minds (Bible study): thinking like Jesus (Rom.12:2) Hands (missions): living like Jesus (Jn.13:14)

+The Hymn of Response (stanzas 1 & 2) Hymn No. 404 The Solid Rock My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In ev ry high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. The Benediction John 17:14-18 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. The Organ Postlude
