The Ensgn Zarahemla Branch OCTOBER 2015 LET S CONTINUE TO PLANT SEEDS Hgh Prest Dean Falconer We have all heard of mracles. But do you want to see a real mracle take place now? If so, take a seed the sze of a freckle. Put t under several nches of drt. Then gve t enough water, lght and fertlzer. Now wat for a small perod of tme. It doesn t matter that the ground s a zllon tmes the weght of the seed. The seed wll push t back. Not very long ago, t was necessary for me to replant grass n a couple of areas n my yard that had been dug up by a contractor. I spread grass seed, fertlzed t, and put top sol over the newly planted seed. I watered t twce daly, and the sun kept the seed warm n ts new home. I now have new lttle sprgs of green grass pokng ther heads up through the heavy top sol. Never under-estmate the power of a seed. As far as I know, James, the epstle wrter, wasn t a farmer. However, he knew the power of a seed sown n fertle sol. And the frut of rghteousness s sown n peace of them that make peace. (James 3:18) The prncple for peace s the same as the prncple for crops: Never underestmate the power of a seed. The story of Henz s a good example of one who planted seeds. Pcture Europe, 1934, Htler s plague of ant-semtsm was nfectng a contnent. Some would escape, but more would de from t. Henz, a Jew, was 11 years old and he would learn quckly of the ant-semtsm. He would learn the power of sowng seeds of peace. The Bavaran vllage of Furth, where Henz lved, was beng overrun by Htler. The Jewsh famles clutched the tradtons that held them together, the observance of the Sabbath, of Rosh Hashanah, of Yom Kppur. Ther old ways took on a new sgnfcance. Persecuton swelled and the tmes became black, yet these ancent precepts were a precous cleft n ther mghty rock. Htler youth roamed the neghborhoods lookng for trouble. Young Henz learned at hs early age to keep hs eyes open. Sometmes he was able to avod a fght, sometmes not. One day, n 1934, a pvotal confrontaton occurred. Henz found hmself face-to-face wth a Htler bully. Henz, at frst, thought a fght was nevtable. Ths tme, however, he was able to walk away not because of what he dd, but because of what he sad. Henz saw frsthand how the tongue can create peace. He learned the skll of usng words to avod conflct. Fortunately, Henz s famly escaped from Bavara and made ther way to Amerca. After Henz grew up, hs name became synonymous wth peace negotatons. Hs legacy became that of a brdge bulder. One has to wonder f hs tranng ddn t come on the streets of Bavara. (Pastor s Corner contnued on next page)

(Pastor s Study contnued) Henz became known to us, not as Henz, but as Henry Henry Kssnger. Never under-estmate the power of a seed. How good are we at sowng seeds of peace? We may not be called on to ward off nternatonal conflct, but we wll have and do have opportuntes to do somethng more vtal: to brng nner peace to troubled hearts. Jesus modeled ths for each of us. We do not see Hm as settlng many dsputes or negotatng conflcts. We see Hm cultvatng nward harmony through acts of love: washng the feet of men He knew had scorned. He bult brdges by healng hurts. He prevented conflct by touchng the nteror of persons. He cultvated harmony by sowng the seeds of peace n fertle hearts. Want to see a mracle that Jesus taught? Plant a word of love deep n the heart of a person s lfe. Nurture t wth a smle and a prayer, and watch what happens. Sowng the seeds of love and peace are lke sowng grass. You don t know why t works, you just know t does. Try plantng a seed today, go plant many seeds today. We are called to be a lovng, carng, understandng and passonate people. Let s start and contnue to plant seeds. God never forgot the prncple: Never underestmate the power of a seed. When Hs kngdom was ravaged and Hs people had forgotten Hs name, He planted Hs seed. When the sol of the human heart had grown crusty, He planted Hs seed. When relgon had become a rtual and the temple a tradng post, He planted Hs seed. Watch, as He places the seed of Hs own self n the fertle womb of a Jewsh grl. That seed grew, for he shall grow up before hm as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground.... (Isaah 53:2) That seed spent Hs lfetme pushng back the stones that tred to keep t underground. That seed made a mnstry out of shovng away the rocks that cluttered Hs Father s sol. It was the fnal stone that proved to be the supreme test. It was the stone of death, rolled by humans n front of the tomb. It appeared the seed would be sealed n the earth. It looked lke ths rock was too bg to be budged. But then, somewhere n the heart of the earth, the seed of God strred, shoved and sprouted. The ground trembled and the rock of the tomb tumbled. The flower of the resurrecton blossomed, never to de agan. Never underestmate the power of a seed. Try becomng a sower. Scrpture Study Partcpants Needed Are you prepared to meet God? In the Book of Mormon, Alma asks the queston, Have ye walked, keepng yourselves blameless before God? He further asks f the reader can say, that ye have been suffcently humble? And contnues wth the queston, Behold, are ye strpped of prde? He concludes by sayng, f ye are not, ye are not prepared to meet God. (Alma 3:47-51) If you would lke to study the topcs of humlty and prde and how to grow sprtually to be prepared to meet God, please consder partcpatng n a scrpture study ttled The Great Commandment The Way of Humlty, Preparng to Meet God. The scrpture study s desgned for small groups and wll take eght weekly sessons to complete. The sessons wll be held at the home of Shrley Andrews n Independence.
