Songs of Praise: Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above Text: Johann Jacob Schütz, 1675; trans. Frances Elizabeth Cox, 1864, alt.; Music: Bohemian Brethren s Kirchengesang, 1566; harm. Maurice F. Bell, 1906, alt. Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation The God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation With healing balm my soul is filled, and every faithless murmur stilled: To God all praise and glory! What God s almighty power has made God s gracious mercy keepeth By morning glow or evening shade God s watchful eye ne er sleepeth Within the kingdom of God s might, lo! all is just and all is right: To God all praise and glory! The Lord is never far away, but, through all grief distressing An ever-present help and stay, our peace and joy and blessing As with a mother s tender hand God gently leads the chosen band: To God all praise and glory! Thus all my toilsome way along I sing aloud thy praises That all may hear the grateful song my voice unwearied raises Be joyful in the Lord, my heart; both soul and body, take your part: To God all praise and glory! In Christ Alone Words and Music by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This corner stone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all Here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone! who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save Till on that cross, as Jesus died Atonement s gift was realized For ev ry sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I stand There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious day Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory Sin s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ refrain: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the pow r of Christ in me From life s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No pow r of hell, no scheme of man Can never pluck me from His hand Till He returns or calls me home Here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand! refrain Response: Love Divine, All Loves Excelling Words and Music by Charles Wesley and Rowland Hugh Prichard Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven, to earth come down Fix in us thy humble dwelling All thy faithful mercies crown Jesus, thou art all compassion Pure, unbounded love thou art Visit us with thy salvation Enter every trembling heart Come, Almighty, to deliver Let us all thy life receive Suddenly return, and never Nevermore thy temples leave Thee we would be always blessing Serve thee as thy hosts above Pray, and praise thee without ceasing Glory in thy perfect love Finish then thy new creation Pure and spotless let us be Let us see thy great salvation Perfectly restored in thee Changed form glory into glory Till in heav n we take our place Till we cast our crowns before thee Lost in wonder, love, and praise
Anthem: Delight Yourself in the Lord Words and Music by Mark Hayes (b. 1953), words adapted from Psalm 37:1 6. 126 5 6 If we go out with weeping Carrying seeds to sow We shall come home with songs of joy Bountiful harvest to show Great is the heart of Jehovah who yearns to supply all our needs Joy for our sorrow, transforming power These are the gifts we receive Do not envy the wicked Who seem to rule the day Like the grass that dies and withers They shall fade away Trust in the Lord and do good So you will dwell in the Lord Enjoy the peace and security Offered from God s hand Delight yourself in the Lord Take joy in all of God s ways You shall be given the desires of your heart And blessing all your days Commit yourself to the Lord Trust Him in all that you are And He will make your righteousness shine Brighter than all of the stars Scriptures: Luke 6:1 19 One sabbath while Jesus was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked some heads of grain, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them. But some of the Pharisees said, Why are you doing what is not lawful on the sabbath? Jesus answered, Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and gave some to his companions? Then he said to them, The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath. On another sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, Come and stand here. He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it? After looking around at all of them,
he said to him, Stretch out your hand. He did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus. Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Closing Song: Will You Come and Follow Me Text: John L. Bell and Graham Maul, 1987 Music: Scottish melody; arr. John L. Bell, 1987 Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don t know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown; will you let my name be known Will you let my life be grown in you and you in me? Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me? Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen And admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Will you love the you you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you ve found to reshape the world around Through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me? (Song continues to the next page)
Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name Let me turn and follow you and never be the same In your company I ll go where your love and footsteps show Thus I ll move and live and grow in you and you in me Reading: Follow Me As you go out into the world At home with your household At school and work In everything you do this week And as you do, remember that I am with you always, even to the end of the world -written by Carolyn Brown
