From The Pastors Pen Peckville and Bradley Memorial United Methodist Charge Fall 2011 News Letter Exhaustion. Movie stars, politicians, physicians, clergy, newspaper professionals, computer workers seem especially susceptible. We often read where they come to the end of their rope and are forced into hospitalization. In case of high-profile people press releases say, Suffering from exhaustion. I used to think that this exhaustion stuff was silly. After all movie stars, physicians, clergy, editors working themselves to death? Come on now. How can they? They re not exactly laying trans-continental pipeline or doing roof work under the scorching sun. What could be easier than acting in front of cameras, prescribing medicine, preparing sermons, arranging newspaper layouts? I ll let you in on a little secret. Just because sweat-drops don t bead on the brow doesn t mean that professionals don t work and work very hard. I ve long ago concluded that aching minds are harder to quiet than aching muscles. And that s precisely the tool these people use and over-use more than any other. Unfortunately, sometimes the tool of cognition breaks. I talked to two professionals this week who had it happen. A psychologist and a cleric. Both had to seek professional treatment in an in-patient institution for their problems problems of a whipped spirit and unraveled mind. Listen. The next time you re watching TV, enjoying a movie, reading a newspaper, visiting your family physician, or listening to a sermon, and are tempted to think, You call this work? think about our Lord and how the pressures of life reached a point where he said, Father, if it be possible that this cup pass from me, and helping angels came and ministered renewal. Oh, God, might we all share that same renewal. By the Rev. Michael Shambora. *Lord, make me humble, and when I am humble, don't let me know it.* Hoagie Sale to benefit flood victims Saturday October 8, 2011 $5.00 Pickup between 9:00am and 10:00am Peckville United Methodist Church Place orders with Ron Lucas at 383-1611 or 406-8409 Help in making them on Friday evening or Saturday Morning will be greatly appreciated. Most have taken vacations and schools are back in session. In July we welcomed our new pastor, Rev. Michael Shambora to our church. He has adjusted very well to new surroundings and has been very inspirational. Please come on Sunday mornings for our worship service. We have been in the new Susquehanna Conference for one year now and the transition seems to have been smooth. Our parsonage, which has been empty for over 10 years is now on the market for sale. It is a spacious home with plenty of room for the new owner s plans. There are several appliances and chairs that will be available to anyone in need in our congregation or to flood victims in the Wyoming Valley. The recent series of storms that affected the East Coast states has been devastating. Our church conference has set up a drive to help the people in need. Donations can be made directly to the Susquehanna flood relief fund and placed in the offering plates or mailed directly to the Conference. The address is included in this newsletter. We have no control over natural disasters but we can offer our gifts and prayers to those affected. Please consider a gift to those in need. Respectively yours, Bob Elvidge Finance Chairperson *Knowing Scripture is of little benefit until it is practiced.* Charge Conference We are scheduled for out annual charge conference on Monday Evening, October 17 th at the Dunmore UMC at 7:00pm. Everyone who is a member of the Peckville and Bradley Memorial churches has a vote

at charge conference. Please plan on attending. Peckville Welch Cookies We will be making welsh cookies on Monday October 10. Orders should be in by October 1 st. *The faith in our hearts should always be visible in our lives.* Bradley Memorial United Methodist Women Greetings and Happy Fall from the Bradley Memorial UMW. We are pleased to have welcomed Rev. Michael Shambora to Bradley Memorial. On July 3, we held an informal get to know each other at 8A.M. before church, and each of those assembled wore a name tag, so he could begin to know us and recognize us by name. Donuts, croissants and pastries were served, along with coffee, Tea, and Juice for the children. We have been EXTREMELY blessed at Bradley with an anonymous donation for the scraping and painting of our tower and our UM flame. Additionally, we are EXTREMELY blessed by the generous gift for the work to be done on our roof b from Bob and Isabelle Keegan. Words cannot express our Thanks for these wonderful gifts, that we may continue to be an asset to the community of Lincoln Street, and Dickson city. On September 23 and 24, we gathered together to make 423 dozen Welsh Cookies. I wish to extend my sincere Thanks to all of those who gave up their days off, and came out to help with the huge undertaking. We are looking forward to the fall season, and the beautiful colors we hope to see. May God continue to bless Bradley Memorial with health, prosperity, and most of all FAITH. Nancy McLain, UMW *Change your prayers sometimes.
