The central message the apostles proclaimed was that God loves us with an unconditional love and in return God desires our love free from all fear. The first letter of saint john says: In love there can be no fear, fear is driven out by true love. (1 jn.4:18) as long as we are afraid of God, we cannot recognize his unconditional love. In the old and new testament we are told over and over not to fear. Jesus warns us to overcome our fears because fear and peace cannot abide together. Jesus said: Do not be afraid, peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. We should not be troubled and afraid because Jesus left us his own peace. Not a worldly peace that can be shaken by circumstances, but a supernatural peace that Philippian 4:6 says: surpasses all understanding and keeps our hearts and minds in Christ. Rev. Leonard Traverso, Chaplain, NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE My Faithful Sir Knights, You have endured my monthly columns for nearly two years. That should be remedied by the election of our new Faithful Navigator. At this juncture, we have only one candidate on the ballot, Sir Knight Julio Galvan. I hope and pray that he has your full support for the next Columbian year. He will need it. He is a very active Knight. He is a strong supporter of the Color Corps, managing to participate in most call-outs. He is starting his second year at Deputy Grand Knight for Council #8747. He is also Council #8747 s food resource guy for all Holidays and coordinates with the St. Vincent de Paul Society to service the food needs of St. Elizabeth s Parish. He is also very active in the Hispanic community, and is one of the Council #8747 Officers who are trying to start a Council at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Alviso. Of course, that means that Father Miramontes uses him for a wide array of services at that Parish because he is the Knights of Columbus to them. He has additional duties including food pick-up at 2 nd Harvest Food Bank and delivery to the Milpitas Food Pantry once a month. So, if you think you don t have time to be an Officer in our Assembly, don t try to tell that to Sir Knight Julio! (Just offer to help wherever you can!) I will be attending the California State Convention as the Grand Knight delegate for Council #8747. I am the alternate GK delegate, 1
but GK Khai Pham is unable to attend. SK Charlie Hudson will be our PGK delegate. The Convention is May 16 through May 18. The 19 th is Connie s and my forty third wedding anniversary. We will probably celebrate with my sister and brother-in-law who live in the San Diego area. It is more likely than not that I will miss the Assembly combined meeting on May 20 th. Please plan to attend the business meeting portion at 7:30 PM. It is important that we have a quorum of our membership for the reading of slate of Officers for Columbian year 2013-2014. Yes there is at least one name for each elected Officer. You will not be drafted. On the other hand, if you would like someone to place your name into nomination, the Assembly would be proud to accommodate you. (There are some Assemblies in the State where you must wait a minimum of five years before your name can be considered for nomination. I could explain, but our editor would have to shoot me. ) Call me at (408) 421-7087 if you would like the explanation or to volunteer for nomination. Lastly, I would invite you to please save the date of August 24th on your calendar. It will be the date of our Past Faithful Navigator dinner at Zahir s Bistro on Main Street in Milpitas. I spoke with Zahir this week and made plans to stop by and finalize the menu. We have discussed this Event during our last two meetings. I will attempt to keep prices down so that as many Sir Knights as possible can attend. Our Faithful Purser tells me that we need twenty tickets sold at $40 a ticket to pay for the invited guests. It is simple math. The Fourth Degree uniform of Tux and social baldric will set the tone. Of course, you can get away with a little less if you wear a Roman collar! I would ask all Councils in the Assembly to consider sponsoring their Parish Priest. Unit next month (for the last installment on this run) God Bless! Please consult with the activities e-mails that I m sending out because already we have five (5) events with another one possible with the untimely death of Fr. Mark Catalana. Those event dates are: 5/5, 5/11. 5/18, and two events on 5/27. We did have two events that our Color Corps participated in during the month of April. The first occurred on April 7 th at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish on Willow where we both participated and did honor guard at Mass and then in a procession that covered a few city blocks before it wound its way back to the Church. I want to take this opportunity to recognize the following Sir Knights of our Assembly s Color Corps who were present: In addition to myself, we had Sir Knights Luis Aguilar, Leonardo Garcia-Araiza, David Marshall, Ervin Reyes, Skipper Yenchik. In addition to our six (6) members, we also had Sir Knights John Pozniak, Mike Seixas, and Ed Cruz from Portola Assembly who in actuality has jurisdiction as that is one of the parishes they cover. Later in the month, on March 17 th, myself and a contingent of five (5) other our Sir Knights headed up to Oakland where we participated with 35 other Sir Knights in a Mass held at the Cathedral of Christ the Light to give thanksgiving for our new pope, Francis 1. CCC T.K. Starkweather (who is also the present of the Oakland Chapter and a member of Holy Spirit Assembly) took command. The Sir Knights who went along for that ride were: Luis Aguilar, Leonardo Garcia- Araiza, Eduardo Heras, David Marshall, Skipper Yenchik, and myself. A grim reality faces us, and me in particular. We only have 27 total listed members of the Color Corps. Of this 27 only 19 are active. When times get tight and we have events piling up on top of one another, our personnel resources can and are stretched thin. For those to whom this message applies, if you are a Color Corps member and have regalia but no longer wish to or can participate, please let me know so that I can remove your name off of the Color Corps rolls. For those who elect to depart our ranks, we appreciate your service and welcome you back should the opportunity present itself. If you want to donate your regalia so that a new member coming into the Color Corps for the first time can have some regalia to start with to keep his personal costs down.
