LEWISTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Shining the light of the gospel into the heart of Lewistown since 1785 May 6, 2018 10:30 AM Prelude O Christ, Our Light Manz God of Grace Manz Welcome and Announcements Introit This is Amazing Grace P Wickham Call to Worship Psalm 146 Leader: Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. People: I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Leader: Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. People: When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come Leader: to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God. People: He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them he remains faithful forever. Leader: He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. People: The LORD sets prisoners free, the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. Leader: The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. People: The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. ALL: Praise the LORD. * Hymn #143 (blue) All Hail the Power of Jesus Name

* Affirmation of Faith Apostles Creed (ecumenical) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * Song of Response #579 Glory Be to the Father Children s Sermon Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Offertory Come, Thou Fount Broughton * Doxology #591 (blue hymnal) * Prayer of Dedication * Song Days of Elijah 1. These are the days of Elijah Declaring the word of the Lord. And these are the days Of Your servant, Moses Righteousness being restored And these are the days of great trials, Of famine and darkness and sword. Still we are the voice in the desert crying Prepare ye the way of the Lord! Chorus: Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, Shining like the sun, at the trumpet's call Lift your voice, it's the year of Jubilee Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes! 2. And these are the days of Ezekiel, The dry bones becoming as flesh. (continued on next page)

And these are the days of Your servant, David Rebuilding the temple of praise. And these are the days of the harvest, The fields are all white in the world. And we are the laborers in Your vineyard, Declaring the Word of the Lord! Chorus: Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, Shining like the sun, at the trumpet's call Lift your voice, it's the year of Jubilee Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes! Robin Mark 1996 by Daybreak Music ~ CCLI #1881909 * Song This is Amazing Grace 1. Who breaks the power of sin and darkness? Whose love is mighty and so much stronger? The King of glory, the King above all kings. Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder, And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder? The King of glory, the King above all kings. Chorus: This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, That you would take my place, That you would bear my cross. You laid down your life that I would be set free. Oh, Jesus I sing for all that you ve done for me. 2. Who brings our chaos back into order? Who makes the orphan a son or daughter? The King of glory, the King of glory. Who rules the nations with truth and justice, Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance? The King of glory, the King above all kings. Chorus This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, That you would take my place, That you would bear my cross. You laid down your life that I would be set free. YOUTH DOWN AND OUT BOUT, May 11-12 at Kish Park: The Youth of our church, McVeytown Presbyterian and 1st United Methodist Church will be having an overnight designed to open our eyes and our hearts to the reality of homelessness and hunger in Mifflin County. To help accomplish this, youth and adult leaders will spend the night in and around the Brown Pavilion of Kish Park, sleeping in make-shift tents and cardboard boxes. We will experience a soup kitchen, simulate what it might be like to find food to eat and hear from representatives from The Shelter Services. Part of Saturday afternoon will be spent in service projects in the park, followed by supper at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Youth will be collecting hygiene products, cleaning products and monetary donations for the Shelter Services in Lewistown. THE LUMINA CENTER is seeking an enthusiastic, qualified candidate for the position of Program Director. He/she must desire to assist children and youth in succeeding. He/she will be expected to work closely with the Director, staff, board members, children and their families. He/she will be responsible for coordinating events, improving existing activities and developing new programs. He/she would be expected to adhere to the mission statement of the LUMINA Center as follows: LUMINA is a Community Center which offers the light of faith, hope and love to for and with the children, youth and families of Mifflin County in the name of Christ. All are encouraged to attend and to bring their friends for fun, food, fellowship and most importantly, growth in relationship to God. Sunday Afternoon Study meets on the first Sunday of each month in the parlor, following the worship service. Tuesday Evening Group meets on the third floor of the church at 6:30 PM. The study is Prayer; Does it Make Any Difference? by Philip Yancey. All are welcome! Wednesday Morning Group meets at the manse at 6:30 AM. A Clash of Kingdoms, by Ray Vander Laan, is part of the very popular That the World May Know series in which Vander Laan guides participants to a deeper understanding of the context of scripture to allow them to apply it more faithfully to their own lives. Sunday Evening Group meets from 6:00 7:15 PM at the manse. Address the Mess, by Andy Stanley encourages participants to embrace, rather than avoid, the challenging aspects of life to find how God may be at work in them. The Christian life is not always easy or neat. Address the Mess will help participants be honest about the challenging aspects of their lives. Due to messy and busy schedules, the group is on hiatus until June. TODAY S SCRIPTURE Deuteronomy 6:1-12 6:1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. 10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
