Joseph loved and followed God, yet he was sold into slavery, accused of doing wrong things, and thrown into prison. Series at a Glance for Kid O Deo (continued) : The Clue of the Colored Coat All the trouble began with a fantastic, beautiful coat. It was a gift for Joseph from his father, but it made his ten older brothers jealous. In their anger, they threw Joseph into a pit and sold him to be a slave. This week, we ll investigate how God demonstrated that he was still working in Joseph s life even when everything around him seemed to be going terribly wrong. Lesson 2: The Clue of the Careful Caretaker Things were looking up for Joseph! As a slave, he was put in charge of an important official s house and was known as a trustworthy and good person. With all that power, it would have been very easy for Joseph lie, cheat, or steal. This week, we ll see how God helped Joseph make the right choice, even when that may not have been an easy thing to do. Lesson 3: The Clue of the Caring Companion It has been a rollercoaster ride for Joseph. Without doing anything wrong, he went from slave to prisoner. Joseph may have felt lonely in prison, but God showed him that he was never really alone. Even in prison, God helped Joseph do his best. When two of the other prisoners had strange dreams, God helped Joseph understand them. We ll investigate the evidence and discover that God can help us no matter where we are. Lesson 4: The Clue of the Cautious Commander When Joseph was summoned by Pharaoh, it was his chance to be free. If he did what Pharaoh said, he might finally get out of prison. Pharaoh asked if he could understand dreams, and Joseph said no. Why would he say that? Joseph knew that it s God who can interpret dreams, and Joseph needed wisdom from God to give Pharaoh good advice. God gave Joseph wisdom and brought more good things into his life. God wants to give us wisdom too! Lesson 5: The Clue of the Captured Cup Joseph was now second in command of Egypt. He was a big deal. When his brothers came to Egypt asking for food, it looked like Joseph s chance to get back at them for the terrible things they did to him. However, Joseph knew about something more powerful than simply trying to get even. This week, we ll see how God worked through Joseph s ups and downs and taught him about the power of forgiveness. 3

Opening Song 3:00 (Roll when directed) Kid O Deo Theme Song Video (Auto advance) Kid O Deo Slide Welcome 2:00 Hi Kid Os! Welcome to Kid O Deo! My name is, and I am so glad you are all here today. We are going to have a lot of fun! We will be singing some songs, learning a Bible Memory Verse, and hearing an awesome story. First, let s go over the rules we have in Kid O Deo. Rule #1: When I m talking, you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place! Now that we all know the rules, I think we re ready to get started. Today we are going to be detectives as we look for clues to catch so we can fill up our Clue Catching Board. Do This: Point to the Clue Catching Board. Value 0:30 We will discover how God helped a man named Joseph many years ago and how he can help us today! I m super excited to learn more about God with you. Kid Os, can you repeat this after me? I can learn more about God every day. I CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT GOD EVERY DAY. Great job! Worship 3:00 5

God loves when we learn about him, and he also loves when we sing to him. We re going to sing a song called Hosanna Rock. The word hosanna means to praise God and show how much we love him. Let s use our hands, feet, and voices as we praise God! Song 1: Hosanna Rock Bible Adventure 6:00 (Auto advance) Super singing, everyone! I love praising God with all of you. You can sit down now. We have a special birdy friend here in Kid O Deo. Her name is Tweet, and she has something to tell us. Take a look at the screen! Tweet Mail Video (Auto advance) Kid Os, Tweet sent us a Tweetergram! Let s check our mailbox to see if it s arrived yet. Here it is! Do This: Open the mailbox, take out the letter, and read it out loud. Know This: The letter reads: Dear Junior Detectives, I have a tricky case for you to solve. You see, some things have been going wrong here in the forest. Two of my favorite trees fell down, the weather has been extra cold, and one of my best birdy friends doesn t want to play with me anymore. Do you know who can help me, and all of us, when things go wrong? Sincerely, Tweet Friends, it s time to start our detective work! We re going to fill up our Clue Catching Board with clue cards to help Tweet find out who can help us when things go wrong. Before we find our first card, we need some extra clue catching gear. I have some gear 6

here, but all of you have super special imaginary gear. As I get my gear, make sure to use your imagination so you can get yours too! Know This: If having the teacher wear/hold the gear is too much of a distraction, simply have the teacher wear/use imaginary gear along with the Kid Os. Gear picture: detective cap, briefcase, magnifying glass So, let s all put on our clue catching caps Do This: Put on cap. open up our big briefcases Do This: Open briefcase. and take out our mighty magnifying glasses. Do This: Take out and look through magnifying glasses. Magnifying glasses help small things look bigger! Now that I have my clue catching cap on, I seem to remember that there was also a package inside our mailbox. I wonder if that will help us figure out our first clue! Do This: Take the package containing the coat and the first clue card from the mailbox and open it. Hold up the coat. Clue Card #1: Coat Detectives, can you use your mighty magnifying glasses to tell me what this is? A COAT! You re right! Our first clue card with a picture of a coat on it was inside this package too. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. Way to go, everyone! We have our first clue. This coat has something to do with an adventure we like to go on here in Kid O Deo...a Bible Adventure! Bible Adventure Jingle Our Bible Adventure should lead us to our second clue too! Do This: Hold up the Bible. Kid Os, are the words and the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL. That is right. The Bible is God s true Word, so we know this story really happened. The story you are about to hear comes from the Bible, but we re going to read it from our storybook 7

because the pictures help us imagine what it might have looked like back when the Bible was written. Let s get started! Do This: Have kids help you turn the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave throughout the story. Picture 1: Joseph with his brothers and dad receiving his special coat Many years ago, there was a young man named Joseph. Can you say Joseph? JOSEPH! Joseph lived in the land of Canaan (kay nuhn), and he had 11 brothers. That is a big family! Joseph s dad s name was Jacob, and Jacob loved Joseph very much. Jacob wanted to show Joseph how much he cared about him, so he gave Joseph a beautiful coat. Picture 2: Joseph approaches brothers from afar while they plot against him This coat was very special, and it made Joseph s brothers upset because none of them got fancy coats. They were so mad at Joseph that they couldn t even say one kind word to him. God wants us to say kind things to others though, right? YES! Picture 3: Brothers throw Joseph in the pit One day Joseph s brothers were watching over their family s animals in a field. Jacob, Joseph s dad, sent Joseph out into the field to see how his brothers were doing. When Joseph s brothers saw him coming, they made a plan to kill him. But the oldest brother wanted to save Joseph, so he told the other brothers to throw him into a pit instead. A pit is a big hole in the ground. Can you pretend to dig a hole? Picture 4: Brothers sell Joseph to the merchants When Joseph got to his brothers, they took off his special coat and threw him into the pit. Even while Joseph was in the pit and probably very scared, God was still with him and helping him. While Joseph was down in the pit, some people came traveling by on their way to the land of Egypt. Joseph s brothers lifted him out of the pit and sold him to the travelers to be a slave. A slave is someone who has to work really hard, but they don t get any money for their work. Joseph would work for the people of Egypt. Picture 5: Jacob holding Joseph s coat 8

Joseph s brothers made their dad, Jacob, think that Joseph was killed by a wild animal even though this was not true. Jacob was very sad for a long time. Can you make a sad face? He didn t know that Joseph was still alive. The good news is that he would get to see Joseph again many years later. Now make a happy face! God used this bad thing that happened to Joseph to help get him ready for some other big, important things that God wanted him to do. Awesome job listening to our story, Kid Os! Wait a minute what s this? Do This: Turn the last page in the book to reveal clue card #2. Clue Card #2: The Pit Our second clue card is in our book! Can anyone tell what this is a picture of? THE PIT! Yes, it s a picture of the pit that Joseph was thrown into. Do This: Put the clue card on the board. Now we know that God helped Joseph when things were going wrong because he was with Joseph even after he was thrown into the pit. But I wonder if God can help us when things go wrong in our lives too? Remember, to solve Tweet s case, we need to find out who can help us when things go wrong. We ll need to find our last clue to know for sure, but we have some important detective training to do first. Get out your magnifying glasses and watch the screen! Memory Verse 3:00 Memory Verse Jingle (Auto advance Memory Verse) Romans 8:28 We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him. Kid Os, this is our new Memory Verse! The Bible gives us all sorts of clues and answers that teach us the best way to live. These words from the Bible teach us that God can use all the things in our lives for good if we love and follow him. Even when things seem to be going wrong, God can still make good things happen. Do This: Read the verse from the screen. 9

Everyone stand up because it s time to practice our verse. This is the first time we are learning this verse, so you can listen and watch me do the actions once. Then we can all start practicing it together! Do This: Practice the memory verse. Great job practicing the Memory Verse and completing this part of our detective training, Kid Os! Worship 2:00 Everyone stay on your feet because we have another song to sing! This song is called The B I B L E. Those letters spell the word Bible. We sing about the Bible because it s God special book for us! Let s sing together! Song 2: The B I B L E Application 4:00 (Auto advance) That is such a fun song! You can sit down. A little bit ago, Tweet told us that she needs our help to solve a case. There were some not so good things happening in the forest, and Tweet wants to know who can help us even when things go wrong. We ve found two clue cards so far: a coat and a pit. In our Bible Adventure today, who was given a beautiful coat but later thrown into a pit and sold? JOSEPH! That s right! God was still with Joseph when these things went wrong, and he even used those bad times to help make good things happen for Joseph and many others. That s pretty cool! We know that God is the one who helped Joseph, but we need one more clue to find out who can help us. Rocky interruption video (Auto advance) Thanks, Rocky! Detectives, Rocky knows where the last clue card is hidden! Take out your magnifying glasses and start looking because our last clue is 10

Do This: Finish this thought by giving a hint to where the clue card is hidden and have the Kid Os help you find it. You can make this silly by acting like you can t find it. Kids love being the experts! It could be hidden in a basket, under a book, behind the flower pot, or anywhere else on/near the stage. Great job helping me find our third clue card! Let s put in on our Clue Catching Board. Clue Card #3: Sad kid/kid praying/happy kid Detectives, it looks like the Kid O in the picture is sad at first, but then she prays to God and feels better after! There is a Bible verse written on this clue card too. I ll read it from the Bible, and we can see if it helps us solve our case. Do This: Open the Bible and read Psalm 46:1. Psalm 46:1 God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is always there to help us in times of trouble. This verse means that God is always there to help us even when things go wrong! After reading this Bible verse and seeing our last clue, I think we re ready to solve our case. Detectives, who can help us even when things go wrong? GOD! You re right! God helped Joseph, and he ll help you too if you love and follow him! Maybe you have a friend who isn t being very nice to you. God will be your friend no matter what! Maybe there s a storm outside, and you re really scared of thunder and lightning. God can help you be brave! Maybe you fall and scrape your knee when you re playing. You can pray and ask God to help you feel better, and you can know that God is listening. God doesn t always make the bad things in our life go away right when we want them to, but he ll always be there to help us! God also gives us other people in our lives who can help us when things go wrong. Maybe you have a teacher, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, friend or someone else who helps you feel better when something bad happens. That s awesome! I m really glad God cares about us so much that he ll help us even when things go wrong. God is great, and he loves each one of you! Tweet, did we solve the case? Tweet dancing video 11

Tweet is so excited that God can help us when things go wrong! You did an awesome job, detectives. Can you all pick up your big briefcases with me? Do This: Pick up the briefcase and close it as you say the following line. This case is closed! Big Idea 2:00 Big Idea Jingle It s time for our Big Idea, which will help us remember what we learned today. Everyone stand up tall because it s time to check in with our friend, Ranger Ron, who is going to help us practice our Big Idea together! Know This: The Big Idea is, God can help me when things go wrong. Big Idea Video (Auto advance) Kid O Whampus 2:00 Awesome job! All right Kid Os, stay standing and listen up because I have a question to ask you are you ready to go Kid O Whampus?! Kid O Whampus: Balloon Blow Up Take Home Reminders 1:00 (Auto advance) Take Homes That was so fun! Before we go, I want to show you a couple of really cool things that you are going to get today. Do This: Pick up the Memory Verse card. You ll get one of these cards with our memory verse on it when you leave. You can use it to help you practice your verse at home! 12

Each week in Kid O Deo, we also give you a sticker with a question on it about what we learned that day. Have your grown ups ask you the question on your sticker when they pick you up! Do This: Pick up the Family Connection card. You can also take one of these cards that has some fun activities for you to do at home, so make sure to tell your grown ups about it. Prayer 1:00 Let s Pray Now it s time for us to talk to God together by praying. God is good, and he loves you so much. He wants to be your friend, and he loves when we spend time talking to him, so we are going to do that right now. You can fold your hands in your lap and close your eyes so you are only thinking about the words we are saying to God. You don t have to fold your hands and close your eyes to talk to God, but doing this can help us be respectful and think about what we are saying. If you want, you can echo the words for the prayer after me. Dear God, We love you. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for helping us when things go wrong. Amen. Kid O Deo Slide It s been great hanging out with you today! Now it s time for you to go back to your classrooms where you will get into groups with your leader and other Kid Os, have a snack, and do a fun activity! See you later! 13
