M 22, 2015 MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST, T here was a man who said: What scares me is when on Judgment Day, God says to Mother Theresa, I know you worked hard, but I think you COULD have done more good works. And there I am right behind her. One more week, and we will soon be contemplating once again the sacri ice offered by Jesus for us. It should really make us appreciate the greatness of His offering His own life so that you and I may be saved. In more ways than one, He showed us the true meaning of pain and suffering. It is through His passion and death that He won victory in His resurrection. He reminds us that there is meaning for each sacri ice offered for a greater good. His words in the Gospel are full of wisdom. What good is a singular grain of wheat? It will not satisfy one s hunger, will it? But, as Jesus said, if this grain of wheat falls onto the ground and dies (goes through the whole process of germination and growth), it will eventually bear much fruit maybe thirty, or sixty, or a hundred more grains. Then it will be a lot more useful. Nobody wants to live in vain. We all want to live fruitful and meaningful lives. Therefore, we ought to re lect more deeply on the words of Jesus in this Sunday s gospel. He is inviting us to be fruitful, useful, and productive so we may contribute to the good of all. Of course, it entails willingness to make some sacri ices. I know that you have been trying your best to do just that during this Lenten Season. You have given up something to keep up with the spirit of Lent, and you have made offerings for the bene it of the needy and the poor. You have contributed to the Charity and Development Appeal of the Diocese and perhaps have done even more. Keep going! Keep working! You are well on your way to a fruitful and meaningful Lent. If you happen to realize that you can still do more, then let me say that there are a lot of opportunities to do more. Our parish still needs more workers in the vineyard of the Lord. We need more volunteers to the ministries, like Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Musicians, Ministers of Care (for the Sick), Lectors, Sacristans, and others. Perhaps you would consider starting out your children early by encouraging them to serve at the altar during Mass (as Altar Servers). There are plenty of ways you can help and contribute to the parish, offering your time and talent. By this, you can remain a faithful steward of God. Notes: We are currently at $47,860 which is 81.1% of our quota for the CDA. We are well on track to reaching our goal of $59,000. If you have not sent in your contribution, please send them in now. The Knights of Columbus (St. John Paul the Great Council 13836) are inviting golfers to join their Charity Golf Tournament that aims to donate wheelchairs to Phoenix VA Hospital. The tournament will be held on April 18, 2015, Saturday, at Kokopelli Golf Club in Mesa, with shotgun start at 7:00 AM. Green fees and lunch are for $65. Please contact any K of C member for more information. Come and play, fellow hacks! It is for a good cause. Congratulations to Sr. Anne Marie on her 55 th year of being God s servant and a Franciscan. We thank her for all the years of service, most especially those years she spent here at Resurrection Parish. GOD LOVES YOU ALL VERY DEARLY. In Christ, FR. ROMY

For the Jewish people, there was only one covenant, the one made between the Lord God and Israel through Moses at Mount Sinai. For Jeremiah to suggest that God would somehow supersede the covenant with a new one would have sounded audacious to Jewish ears. But in this way he is a predecessor of Jesus who, in the Gospel of John, is continually portrayed as superseding the past, establishing the reign of God in a new way. And in today s Gospel passage, Jesus the new covenant speaks the language of his new commandment of love when he tells of the dying grain of wheat, and of our own need to die to self in order to be raised with Christ. As Lent ends and we prepare to enter into Holy Week, the dying grain of wheat serves as an excellent symbol of the kind of dying and self sacri ice to which disciples are called, a symbol of that new covenant written deep within our hearts. Tracey Siedinski-Seyler 480-838-0207 Ext. 122 ADULT FAITH FORMATION B C Today, our Elect, Nicole, celebrates the Third Scrutiny Rite prescribed by the Church.. The Gospel for today s 10:30 Mass at this rite is from Year A and tells us of the raising of Lazarus from the dead. The Scrutiny has these wonderful words: "Do not let the power of death hold them back." LIFE IS A PART OF DEATH That is the message in the Gospel story for today: Life is always a part of death. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, he was dramatically saying to us that death never has the last word. Life follows death. Christ is asking the Elect and us to examine our lives to see what is preventing us from receiving the new life he is offering. What grave sinfulness or sel ishness or lack of forgiveness have we buried ourselves in? What are the chains of death that keep us bound from which we need the Lord to release us? Are we ready to hear Jesus say to us as he said to Lazarus, Come out, come out of that tomb of death you have buried yourself in and receive the new life I have prepared for you? Please continue to keep Nicole and our Candidates for Full Communion, Mary and Beth, in your prayers. A F F L G S This week (Monday evening 3/23 and Thursday morning 3/26), we continue our study of the Gospel of John. We are in our 5th and last week and will look at the end of the Book of Glory which encompasses Christ s passion and death as well as the Epilogue of the Resurrection appearances.
