SERVICE for the LORD S DAY First Presbyterian Church South Lyon, Michigan 3rd Sunday of Easter / April 15, 2018 Prelude Sing Praise to God We gather in community... Call to Worship God has set apart those who are faithful. Our Creator will hear us when we call. God puts gladness in our hearts and minds. We will lie down in safety and sleep in peace. Beloved, we are God s children now. What we will be has not yet been revealed. We are here to remember Jesus Christ. We want to be like the One who lived by love. Our faith strengthens us for each day s living. God empowers our ministries of caring. We trust God whose children we are. We look forward to what God will reveal to us. Opening Hymn #833 Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain E. Broughton Do you have a prayer request? Fill out a yellow prayer card from the pew rack and place it in the offering plate during the time of the offering and your request will be shared by the pastor during the Joys and Concerns of the Church. First Presbyterian welcomes children and encourages them to participate in our entire worship service. Children s large print bulletins are available to help them engage more fully during worship. Please join in reading or singing the parts of the service in bold. When this symbol precedes an element of the service, please stand if able.

Call to Confession To receive God s Grace We come before God in complete honesty, confessing our sins, and asking God by the grace of forgiveness, to restore what is broken. The Passing of the Peace is one of the most ancient responses in worship. Having received Christ s peace, we pass it on. We sing in thanks for the gift of forgiveness and new life. We invite our young children to come up front at this time. Prayer of Confession We are disturbed and distressed, O God, by the evil that surrounds us. It is hard to view many people we see as your children: murders, abusers, those who cheat others and profit at their expense. We feel like victims. Why should we confess our sins when there is so much evil beyond our influence? Yet we know we do not abide in your love. We sin by turning away from sisters and brothers who are also beloved by you, however they may differ from us. We seek the forgiveness you promise and the health you offer. Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness Sharing the Peace of Christ May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Song of Response #581 Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. Children s Message To hear God s Word... New Testament Reading Acts 3:12-19 pg. 121 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Hymn #297 In Christ Called to Baptize vv. 1, 3 and 4 Gospel Reading Luke 24:36b-48 pg. 91 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Message Hymn of Faith #157 I Danced in the Morning And to respond to God s love Offering (and collection of prayer cards) Offertory Contemplation J. Johnson Doxology #609 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Praise God, from who all blessings flow; Praise God all creatures high and low. Alleluia, alleluia! Praise God, in Jesus fully known: Creator, Word and Spirit one. Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Prayer of Dedication Joys and Concerns of the Church Prayers of the People The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. During the offering, please take a moment to sign the friendship pads found in each pew Doxology literally means words of glory. Doxologies have long been used by Jews and Christians to praise God. Here we honor and thank God from whom all blessings flow. We bring to God our celebrations and cares, praying for the world, the church, and those close to us. Closing Hymn #238 Thine Is the Glory *Children are dismissed at this time for Sunday School Charge and Blessing Put your trust in God as you face another week. Good affirms you and claims your faithfulness. We will open our eyes to the goodness of God. We seek to follow faithfully where Christ leads.

Turn away from vain words and seeking after lies. Seek the purity of life we find in Christ Jesus. We pray for honest insight as we seek truth. O that we might see the good in ourselves! We have been touched by mystery and wonder. Let us live as God s beloved children. What we will become has not yet been revealed. We are confident in God s will for us.
