He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18 19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. From the Pastor's Desk Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2010 is on the way. However, we as believers don't have to wait until that date to be thankful for all that God has done. We know that everyday is a day of thanksgiving. Start thanking God right now and watch God lift your spirit above your circumstances. Love, Pastor Thompson Welcome to the Mt. KINGDOMTIED August 29 November 28 (The pulpit attire is Green) We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KING DOMTIDE runs from August 24 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: THE INESCAPABLE GOD The study this quarter focuses on the nature of God as the first person of the Trinity (Father). Its three units look at Old Testament texts from the Exodus narrative and from the poetry of Psalm. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT3 GOD PROTECTS These four lessons focus on psalms that extol the attributes of God, who is good, everlasting, secure and omnipresent. THIS WEEK S: GOD DELIVERS AND PROTECTS Psalm 91:1 6, 9 16 God is a shelter and a refuge in the midst of our fears. We are to love and trust Him and place our faith in His ability to protect us. NEXT WEEK S: November 28, 2010 GOD IS ALL KNOWING Psalm 139:1 6, 13 16, 23 24 The psalmist, David, praises the all knowing, all seeing, ever present God, who knows everything about him and us, including the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30). David recognizes and appreciates that even though God knows everything about us including our failures He still accepts and loves us. He is our creator, who is worthy to be praised. MOBC November is Adoption Month But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father! Galatians 4:4 6 (NKJV) Top Seven Reasons You Should Consider Adopting a child. V i r g i n i a One Church One Child Claim our own Adopt an African American Child #7) Others tell you that you are good with kids. #6) Reaching out to others seems natural to you. #5) Patience and a sense of humor are two of your greatest strengths. #4) Your commitment will help change a child's future. #3) You believe that every kid counts. #2) You know how important it is to be apart of a family. And the #1 reason to consider adopting a child is: Today there are more than 1500 children in Virginia waiting for a permanent family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Angel is a happy and loving teenager, full of energy. She enjoys drawing listening to music, watching I Carly on television, playing basketball and caring for her doll babies. Angel is a kind child who gets along well with younger children and is very connected to her foster siblings. Angel is in the ninth grade and is excited about transitioning to high school. Angel is inquisitive and needs a family that will explain information to her on her level of understanding. Angel will benefit from an Adoptive family that can provide a stable, structured, and nurturing home environment. She is waiting for someone to make her a member of their family. Could it be you? PREMATURITY AWARENESS MONTH November is Prematurity Awareness Month, a time when the March of Dimes and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority focuses everyone s attention on the impact of premature birth. MOBC HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life! MOBC Marriage Enrichment Ministry Invites you to a Holiday Angel Affair Saturday, December 4, 2010 @ 6:00 pm Multi-Purpose Building Banquet Room ADULTS ONLY- Donations $5.00 Gourmet Food, Good Fun, & Great Fellowship Dress to impress in your festive and fabulous holiday attire and You will be blessed with some GREAT PRIZES!
